An insane attempt to complete a flooded, dangerous 100 mile wilderness as Taylor wraps up her 2023 AT Thru-hike. This challenged me mentally, physically and emotionally. Taylor had a special way of keeping it positive no matter what we’re facing!

My #3 son is a South bound AT hiker this year. I dropped him off at Baxter State park on July 13th with 1 of his older brothers who did Katadyn and the first part of the 100 mile wilderness to Jo Mary rd .From there he is on his own. It was in this next section of the 100 mile wilderness he got his trail name. He received the name Lifeguard for his efforts in pulling a couple of hikers out of the river after being swept down stream. I talked with him the other day, he is in DC taking a couple of 0 days checking out our capital.

I helped rescue 2 out of a 3 hiker group last year at Wilson stream? Don’t quote me on that but it was no stream last year!! Chest high water and not safe! Luckily myself and my hiking partner made it unscaved but it was interesting to say the least! Great vid btw.

For folks new to stream crossing, watch at 9:25 and do NOT face downstream as Taylor is doing; face upstream. You will have more control over the force of the water against your strong quad muscles, over having the water hit the back of your knees. Also don't attach yourself to any rope; hold on as she is doing. If you slip you don't want to be held by any rope. Scary stuff!

I've been watching Taylor the entire way both in '21 and this year. VERY interesting to see it from your viewpoint...can't believe I didn't think of it until now. Thanx for the snapshot of the last days of her hike. Can't believe neither of you said anything about the big rip in your jacket! Baby bear get you? 🙂

Hiking the 100 miles wilderness anytime is awesome. My absolute favorite section on the AT have hiked 8 times. From dry no water to death defying stream crossings. Adds a flare for adventure. So happy to see you and Taylor supporting each other. And grateful you have the know how to call the trip and wait for safer travels. Awesome video and a big “hi” to Taylor. I speak for myself, Cheryl Barns and my recently passed husband, John who have been hiking on the AT for over 30 yrs. I miss Maine like crazy and my lifetime hiking partner

Congratulations Cody, starting your hike with climbing Katahdin was a great accomplishment but continuing the 100 mile wilderness even better. Those water crossings were really sketch, glad you went around that one. Oh and the moose charge too, what an adventure! Well done. Great to see you and Taylor hiking together again. ❤

Awesome to see you two hiking together again. I remember that the reason Taylor got off the trail was the abundance of rain and water in the streams. Sorry that the rain returned. Glad that you two are hiking together thru this stuff. Defiantly different from the last time you guys finished the AT. I remember that you had some shin support leggings in 21. I started using them, and a big help for tired legs.

I was actually curious to see if there was any unexplored or lesser-known areas areas in the United States and they're actually are quite a few even after all the years of satellite mapping, the US is home to vast wilderness areas in Alaska, the 100 Mile Wilderness in Maine, and side canyons of the Grand Canyon that are still unexplored

I drove past the northern terminus of the 100-mile wilderness last winter when there was a foot of snow on the ground, and I saw snowshoe tracks on it. I am wondering how far into the section those hikers were able to reach. Or maybe they did the whole thing? That's hard to fathom under those conditions.

More Taylor just can't get away from flooding. It's flooding in the spring; it's flooding in the fall. The flooding is REALLY dangerous -- an AT thru-hiker (Steady Eddie) drowned this summer in that terrible flooding in Vermont. I believe it was in July.

Cody, I’m a new 1st time subscriber to your vlog but her your named mentioned so many times in Taylor’s postings. Pretty sure I saw you in her ‘21 AT Vlog. You are a great friend to hell her finish out her ‘23 AT THRU Hike. It sounded like for very valid safety reasons you have both end your attempt. You are both AT 21 certified AT Thru Hikers & 2000 mile Club awardees. I have a pseudo-niece with a trail name Pinto a no bow who may finish her through hike and attempting to summit Katahdin within the first week of October. I pray for good weather and her safety, and have pretty much relied on God keeping her safe in a lot of the good weather didn’t come, I hope you keep posting. I’d like to follow your adventures and look back if you posted your hike in 2021 to review it. I often tell people when I won’t see them for a while goodbye make good decisions and be safe, which you and Taylor have done out of great experience, and understanding the perils that lie out in the wilderness as a through hiker. Thanks for sharing. ❤😊

A forest can't burn if its wet, so no forest fires for the northeast yet. Yay! Rejoice! If there is high water 50 miles ahead, its a good bet that it will be down by the time you get there, "Good Lord willin' and the crick don't rise!" LOL! Now you know what that really means!

That's wild! Keeping up with Taylor's hike from Cody's perspective. I am a little confused, though. Did you two finish the 100 mile? And what percentage of Taylor's remaining hike is left? I don't think we saw you cross it, but that river at the 11:35 point was scary looking! Nice to see you again.
