@@jackyl8259 The best players from the 50s and 60s would be absolutely destroyed by the worst players today. It's not hating, it's the truth. Players are simply bigger, stronger, smarter, way better nutrition, better equipment, better strategy, everything. Watch an old game in full, they can be easily found on youtube, and it looks like a beer league game. Could you imagine Gump Worsley or Glenn Hall going up against an Auston Matthews toe-drag, a Patrick Laine one-timer or an Ovie blast from the circle? No chance. It's not that the old timers were bad players, it's that it was simply a different time. Every single sport on earth is the same, players today are far better than anyone in the past

4:50:40 I agree with Stan Fischler. #5- Best defensemen of all-time. He didn't only score goals and assist, he played great defense unlike Coffey who kept getting caught in the offensive territory when the opponents were on the offense. Coffey was great, but i'd take Dennis. Soon as he retired The Islanders went from 1st place in 1988 to last the next season. In 1980 he missed 49 games and the Isles suffered but when he came back the Islanders finish strong going 12 games without a loss to finish the season. On power play he was the best. His passing was tops.

Bobby Orr was the greatest hockey player I've ever seen. You simply had to be there. Not just one zone- but all three. Complete and utter dominance of all three zones of the rink. His dominance can be seen in his Per Game plus/minus numbers. They dwarf all other NHL Players that ever laced up a pair of skates.

Bryan Trottier and Mike Bossy chemistry were the best in NHL history. I think their heads were connected, They always knew where each other was on the ice. Everyone says Wayne Gretzky was the best player in NHL history but no one says anything about the division he played in. Put Trottier and Bossy in that division and one or both of them would have scored 200 pts. The Edmonton Oiler vs. their conference was unbelievable, but against the other conference the Oilers were just good, not great. The Oilers played .700 vs. their conference (Look at the stats vs. their conf. vs. our conf.)The conference Trots and Bossy played in had all the great teams and much more physical , Montreal, Boston, Philadelphia, Buffalo, Rangers, Caps. Mike Bossy is the best goal scorer in NHL history on a goals per game stat. .762 goals per game. Better than The great one and Mario Lemieux. In the playoffs he scored 17 goals 3 con. years which nobody in the history of the NHL has ever done.
@jeffreykaufmann28675 жыл бұрын
Bossy played only ten years. His goal per game average would have dropped if he had played till the age of 35 like all players do. Had Gretzky retired after 10 years his GPG would have been 1.00GPG: 637 goals in 632 games. Gretzky scored 5 goals in his 39th game to get 50 against the Flyers, a Eastern conference team. Your suggestion that Trottier or Bossy could get 200 points is laughable. Even Mark Messier and Kurri couldnt get 140 points playing in the Western Conference.
@jeffreykaufmann28675 жыл бұрын
@@RoamHockeyVery funny. Bossy's 50 goals in 50 games was nullified by Gretzky doing the same thing in only 39 games. 1) fastest 50 goals 2) most 70+ goal seasons ( Bossy never scored 70 goals) 3) most hat tricks in one season 4) most career hat tricks 5) most goals in one season Gretzky has all the major goals record but Bossy was greater? LMAO!
@jeffreykaufmann28675 жыл бұрын
@@RoamHockey In his last season Bossy was on pace for only 48 goals. The year before he had 61. He probably wouldn't have scored 48 cause a player slows down in the 2nd half of the season. I assumed you knew the fastest 500 goal record. Gretzky had so many and I didnt want to state them all.
@jeffreykaufmann28675 жыл бұрын
@@RoamHockey why dont you wanna see Ovechkin break Gretzky's record? Most people say it took Ovie many more games to score 500 because it's harder to score goals now. In the last 22 years only two players have scored 60+ goals. Ovechkin 65 and Stamkos with 60. If Connor McDavid never scores 50 goals its because he isnt as good as Ovechkin. Cant use great Goaltending as an excuse.

@@RoamHockey just heard that Ovechkin scored two goals. Needs 5 more to pass Lemieux. A Connnor McDavid fans cant use the excuse "Its harder to score today " to explain why he hasnt scored 50 goals yet when Ovechkin has scored 50+ goals in eight seasons.

I realize that intangibles factor into player selections (not just stats and cup wins), but there are several early players that probably do not belong on the list (more sentiment than actual achievement - incl a few early goaltenders). As well, there are several players that were overlooked: Dale Hawerchuk, Evgeni Malkin and Mark Recchi top the list of omissions, and if you're going to include Mike Gartner (awesome player but no cup), then you have to also include Dino Ciccarelli, Doug Gilmore, and Michel Goulet (all with similar numbers to Gartner). Goalies on the other hand, seem to be under a higher scrutiny. Stats alone does not win them a spot on the list. One or more cup wins seems to be a must (perhaps rightfully so). Notably absent in this regard is Ed Belfour, Marc-Andre Fleury and Chris Osgood.
@larrysmac2 жыл бұрын
I agree with goaltenders being overlooked. I can think of at least 4 worthy of consideration. I'm old enough to remember how great Gump Worsley and the Rangers' Eddie Giacomin were. Plus, 2 more Rangers to consider are Mike Richter and Henrik Lundqvist. I can't hang with Osgood however. I see him as mediocre with any other team-and I was born and raised in "Hockeytown."

The problem for me is the title of this list. The 100 Greatest NHL Players should be 100 "of the Greatest NHL Players". So it would not mean the greatest but of the greatest acknowledging there are great players not on the list. I would actually prefer that they would only put those who are retired on the list. It gives a history to those who are younger to learn about the many players before their time in their prime. So take Crosby, Ovie, Kane, Teows, Keith off etc and put on others then update and make it best of the 100 updated as of a date who are retired???? Or make top 150, so many to know of
@vincenzoscarapicchia82984 жыл бұрын
I know you guys want to honor the history of the original 6 but there are some players on this list that just succeeded from being on great teams who didn’t deserve to be on here. While leaving some legends off like Iginla, Doan, Malkin, and Hawerchuck name a few.
