Thumbnail is "The Mini Biko Keikan" (6:12)
A look at 100 obscure PS2 games!
While a small number of these made it to Europe/North American, many of them stayed in Japan.
A lot of them were low budget games, and some were just plain wacky. But a lot of them are a lot of fun despite the low production values - and there are a few genuine hidden gems in here!
Some points of interest:
- Early entries in the Earth Defence Force and Oneechanbara series
- The one attempt to take Metal Slug into 3D gameplay
- Not one, but TWO games about firefighters
- A licensed tie in to the Fight Club movie
And lots more! Enjoy!
And for our patreon subscribers, here's the usual Steam Key!

Ooh, some naughty scenes (and some other nice scenes) at 0:09, 0:47, 2:36, 3:23, 3:42, 4:24, 6:12 (Thumbnail), 6:29, 6:35, 6:42, 8:30, 9:42, 9:54. That's 13 games all in all. That's a remarkable strike rate. - Many notes: There are a lot of typos and word errors in various titles in the subtitles. 0:16 - Missing 'The' word at the start of "Adventures of Cookies & Cream". It's also known as "Kuri Kuri Mix" in both Europe & Japan. 0:30 - "The Aka-Champion - Come on Baby" is apparently ported to Steam PC in 2019 as "Come on Baby!". 1:29 - Title has a typo. It's not 'Knight', but 'Night' instead in "Blood +: One Night Kiss". At 1:36, the subtitle for the game is mispelt "Bucaneer". There's a double C, so it's "Buccaneer". 1:42 - "Chain Dive" is really adjoined together. It's "ChainDive", according to an online search. 2:05 - Missed a crucial letter 't' for "Cover Command". It's "Covert Command". 2:18 - No, it's not subtitled "Vampire of the Apocalypse". It is instead "Dark Angel: Vampire Apocalypse". 2:36 - I prefer the unofficial English translation of the Japanese title of "Demolition Girl" called "The Daibjin". It is translated either as "The Gigantic Beauty" or "The Big Beautiful Woman". It sounds more right on. 2:47 - Ooh, again. You gotta be careful with some titles' wording. This one is not "Diabolik Original Sin". It's "Diabolik: The Original Sin". 3:36 - The proper title is "Firefighter F.D.18", not "Firefighter FD 18" as subtitled. But perhaps you quickly put the title up. 3:54 - The game has a full title of "Garouden Breakblow: Fist or Twist". 4:00 - "Gekibo 2" almost had an English release called "Polaroid Pete". 4:11 - "Global Defence Force" was the 2nd game in Sandlot's long-running "Earth Defense Force" series. 4:29 - Wikipedia badly titled this game. But the correct title in many other websites is "Ikki Tousen: Shining Dragon". 4:54 - The unofficial English translation of this JP-only title is "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood". 5:14 - "Legend of Sayuki" is the European title of the US title "Heavenly Guardian". 5:32 - There are several different titles. But the full unoffici English title is "Love Smash!: Super Tennis Players". 5:36 - There's an exclamation mark next to the title as "Mad Maestro!". 5:48 - Unofficial English title for "The Maid Fuku to Kikanjuu" is "The Maid Clothes and Machine Gun". 5:54 - "Maken Shao: Demon Sword" is an enhanced remake of the Dreamcast title "Maken X". 5:59 - There seems to be an emulation glitch for "Maze Action". 6:42 - Full title of "Ping Pong" is also "SpinDrive Ping Pong" (Some websites do separate the first word into "Spin Drive"). 7:18 - Full title is "S.L.A.I.: Steel Lancer Arena International". 8:00. - Full title of "Special Forces" is "Special Forces: Nemesis Strike" for the US region. Common European title is "CT Special Forces: Fire for Effect". 8:48 - Spelling is slightly off. There is a 'y' letter in the "Tairou" word for the title "The Tairyou Jigoku". 9:13 - Important typo fix. It's not "Tonsou", but "Tousou" in "The Tousou Highway 2: Road Warrior 2050". 9:17 - It's usually "Warship Gunner 2" in most websites, but the full title can sometimes be "Naval Ops: Warship Gunner 2". The creator has added in so many titles in the video that were published by D3 Publisher and 505 GameStreet. Wow. That's over 25 notes!
@GaryRetroGamer
@GaryRetroGamer Жыл бұрын
Oo, thanks for pointing out the typos. Usually, for the videos on this channel, they are manually added to the video by hand - and so are proof read another time. For this video, the subtitles were auto-generated based on filename - which clearly had mistakes. When we get a chance, we'll correct them. Thanks for paying attention!
@ObiKKa
@ObiKKa Жыл бұрын
At 2m 36s, I mispelt the Japanese title coz it was hard to see another 'i' there. So it's "The Daibijin". And at 4m 29s, the wiki page with the bad title was just a redirect page to an "Ikki Tousen" manga page that also has info about the video games with the correct title of that PS2 game, "Ikki Tousen: Shining Dragon".

> The unofficial English translation How can they be "unofficial" when they're LITERALLY TRANSLATED AS SUCH? You meant to say an official translation of "Jojo no Kimyou Bouken" could be "The Worldwide Adventures of Jojo the Adventurer"?
@ObiKKa
@ObiKKa Жыл бұрын
It's just the English title of the game, not the anime itself, that I found online. I'm not the expert. The game was released in Japan only with a fully Japanese title. The Japanese title is "JoJo no Kimyō na Bōken Fantomu Buraddo". There is a 2007 anime film with that English-translated title, though.

Metal Slug 3D was one of my favorite if not weirdest Metal Slug entry. Lore wise: it got really dark and deep when the plot was not about Morden taking over the coup but was all about a new character Oguma who wanted to restart and erase history for researching the perfect timeline. Further more I must add I was actually frightened of this game too because the last boss was definitely "WTF Material". Plus Mission 5 was an the uncanny one since it plays at the underground ruins filled with ancient zombies.

Colosseum Road to Freedom was mine and my childhood best friend's favorite game, we used to play it for hours. Also TimeSplitters Future Perfect. So many memories, geez

Colosseum was a great game, not so sure it was that obscure either, at least here in PAL land.

Among all these obscure games i thought i'd have played a few at least. To my surprise the only one i played and played till completion was Legion The Legend of Excalibur on the ps2 back then. XD I miss that game now that i'm reminiscing about it.

PS2 era was the wild west of video games. There were no guidelines and seemingly no limits. Anyone could make anything for anybody. The golden age if you ask me. Such an exciting time to play video games. Just go to blockbuster and pick something out at random. No reviews or hype to spoil your interest/taste.
