The other point missed here by the interview and the comments: The price of lithium went up, using his example of gold from $2000 to $16000. All managed from slave labour particularly in Africa. Tesla's offering is 8 years, this is why you see electric car prives down to 50% after 2 years. People are beginning to realize if the battery goes your car is worthless.. Cost of an electric car is about double a Toyota hybrid: Compare a Toyota Camry $30,000 to a $50,000 model 3 You're getting 50 miles to the gallon in a Camry, if you use a supercharger it actually cost you more to drive a model a model 3 . The first five years of maintenance the Tesla's is only going to be a minor savings because of the expensive tire replacement cost. Of course if you could charge it home this is not the case. The insurance, on the Tesla is going to be on average about 30% more The resale value after 5 years is not even comparable you will lose so much more on the Tesla. Currently after about 2 years you lose about 50% of your value on your Tesla. Electric cars are doomed, because we are now beginning to realize the battery life is about 15 years. This fact is going to kill sales once everyone realizes you need to buy a new car after 15 years. The only reason why a new car can be justified is to take the price and divided up over the lifetime of a car. The fact is, a 15-year lifetime divided by $50,000 is going to be cost prohibited for most Americans, let alone in the world. Currently the only way it makes economic sense to buy an electric car. Is if you drive 100,000 miles a year . Even this is a crap shoot, because some batteries are actually dying way before the 15 years. Only government The government forcing you to buy electric car Will save the industry in the long run. And I do not believe, the American people have the appetite to have government force them to buy an electric car.
