I wonder if the new lighter muffler needs that weight installed.

zombieqtr I keep the land cruiser tame and commute friendly. The Supra gets the loud, performance oriented exhaust. ;) Best of both worlds!

Say, its been two years, hows that old thing doing right now?
@user-df1gh8le6l7 жыл бұрын
+zombieqtr not sure if you mean the car or muffler, haha. Both are awesome. Changed a gasket on the muffler recently and the system still looked brand new. I'd buy it again. Though maybe I'd buy the gaskets straight from Toyota instead of the cheap Rock Auto ones.

Informative video. Did you have any issues removing the slip in piece?

Snap! Your rig is my twin under my matte black wrap is that same color green.. an it currently sets w/ mileage 209,669 ( purchased it at 205,000 it’s a 98’Landcruiser @YotaMD THE reason why I’m watching this video is cause when I put the gas an go 75-80 I hear a rattle ( other then that it’s quiet an for so long I had no idea that I had a whole in my old exhaust that I thought it was normal )

@YotaMD, how do you like the Bosal Muffler so far (based on the video, you had it for about 5 years?)? What size nuts & bolts would you say I need for the front side of the muffler? Lastly, would you recommend getting both angle grinder and dremel or just an angel grinder do the job for cutting those bolts?

I like it a lot for the price point. Since this install, I've become aware of some good online Toyota dealers (McGeorge and EB) that offer the OEM parts at a reasonable price point. I'll need to replace the muffler on my 06LX soon and will probably go OEM, knowing that some smart shopping can keep the price reasonable. The only issue with the Bosal was that the clamp is pretty thoroughly rusted now. Muffler itself looks and sounds fine. Angle grinder is probably best for this work. Dremel could do it, but you'd burn through a couple batteries worth of charge at least as well as a handful of cutting wheels. Angle grinder will tear through it in no time, just have to be a little more careful with those. Bolts are M10, I think. 14mm head. I'd buy OEM bolts and nuts from Toyota if you can. In my experience generic bolts rust more quickly. Worth the $ to just buy OEM and know you've got the right hardware.

@@user-df1gh8le6l after much thought I went ahead and ordered Doug Thorley catback to replace my old and rusted muffler and the entire exhaust system. What did you use for the front muffler gaskets? Did you by chance use this OEM gasket (part number 90080-43036) for the muffler installation?

Alunimized steel its not the greatest as they tend to rust out in couple years if u use the vehicle more often the condensate and acid in the exhaust gasses eats away at it from the inside mainly on short trips. as i had bad luck with Walker mufflers they rust out prematurarly i just have a muffler shop do the pipes in Stainless steel and a stainless OE baffled muffler . for pre 1975 vehicles without catalytic converters for these types of mufflers it takes one good backfire to blow the mufflers apart.

Figured I'd reply to this to update that the bosal muffler is still looking great. The clamps show corrosion, but the muffler and piping are still looking great.
