The Basics:
PArking brake or emergency brake is an essential part of any vehicle. On offroad vehicles such as my 99 Land Cruiser, it is critical that it functions properly as i often park it on hills, or steep slopes.
The Problem:
Just like regular brake pads, the brake shoes for the parking brake wear over time and need to be adjusted so it engauges properly.
Solution:
Adjust them yourself! its super easy and theres nothing yo buy.
Repair difficulty: 1/10
Repair time: 1 hr

You do not need to remove the wheel. You only need to lift the car so you can rotate the tire in order to position the hole to the "South". Toyota engineering is amazing. They keep it simple. I like your videos. Goos luck

Or you can just pull the handbrake up to 3 clicks then adjust the drum brakes tight then release handbrakes. That should give you around 5 clicks total when done.

I had to pull mine off. Lx470 2003 oem rims. Can’t access it or even see it with them on

Top tip. Pull it ok 3 clicks. Adjust it up tight. Then you know 3 clicks it binds. 4 and 5 is tight. Less is disengaged.

This isn't a bad approach, however I came down here to say you should feel NO resistance when correctly adjusted. Any small amount is going to get things hot pretty fast, and accelerate wear. Best solution is new OEM shoes but adjusting it a few times furst isn't bad especially if you can see how much meat is left.

Much needed video! Question on my 99 I recharged my ac but now its blowing but not cold any idea.(Maybe thinking you've ran into the issue before)

Thanks! I haven’t messed much with my ac system (it’s been working fine so far), but I’d check that the compressor in engaging when u hit the ac switch. If it is, check that the condenser and lines aren’t clogged. If you’re not too familiar with the ac system, I recommend taking it to a reputable repair shop and at least having them check it out

Thanks for sharing. What do you think the cause is if the handbrake clicking does only one click and only when it reaches all the way up. I am not hearing the those many clicks you mentioned. Even though I was able to adjust the brake at the tire and both are giving reasonable resistance

U might want to check the handbrake mechanism. U should hear more than one click

Maybe I missed, but you released the e-brake handle to rotate the wheel to align the hole. However, do you need to pull the brake handle up for about 4 clicks to do the adjustment?

yea my handbrake is virtually nonexisting mild hill is enough for the cruiser to ignore handbrake entirely - I dont wannta just use P and rest entire weight on the transmission (I mean that's what I was doing so far, but I park on level ground) =c this could prove useful

Try to adjust, but if you max out the adjuster and it still doesn’t lock, it might be time for new brake shoes/rotors

Prior to adjustmnent, I'd keep tighten up a couple/3 lugs to make sure the rotor/drum is riding true.

This isn’t handbrake adjustment, this is purely drum brake adjustment.
