I just bought a '97 Sierra K1500 last week. I've been looking at lighting upgrades so I've been watching a ton of YT vids trying to decide which way to go. I just wanted to say that your vids are great!! The door hinges, front lights, these taillights......all great and very much appreciated! The shopping lists and links are awesome!!!! Thank you!! I've been working on car wiring since I was 15.....back when you had to go to the library to get info........you're one of the only people I've found in all those years that crimped the bare butt connector correctly and with the correct crimpers!! You didn't mention or really show the heat shrink, but I did notice you using the torch to shrink it....so close enough. :) Anyway......thanks for taking the time/effort to make these videos! I do know just how tedious they can be to make. lol -Mike

I kind of did the same thing except I wire the top two lights together so when you hit the tail lights both sets of lights light up. As for a reverse light I bought an ungodly bright LED that is literally brighter than a street light.
@NavyDad Жыл бұрын
yes wired both together for running, stop and turn, were did you get the supper bright backup? mine is very bright too but brighter is better

Thanks for the info . I have been looking for some new tail lights , but did not like the options i saw

Too bad these don’t fit stepsides unless you remove the middle bolt that holds the fenders on. The connector hits the bolt and the lights won’t go in. Cool concept but I like the OEM style for looks and I like the circuit board style.

Great video! Are both these flashers needing to be upgraded because of the switch to LED? Or can I use stock that is in there now?
@NavyDad3 ай бұрын
Yes, you have to replace both flashers The emergency flashers are on a separate circuit Turn, signal flasher is on the fuse block. The emergency flasher is up around the steering column, just under the dash.

Thanks for all the information! Keep up the good work! Looking forward to seeing the big block done! Looks like we’re close, I’m in Fate,Tx. I’m having problems getting my leds to work, care to lend a hand?

which lights head or tail and what is the issue?
@jaramieterrell2 жыл бұрын
@@NavyDad thank you so much for replying! I’m having the issue of only half of the switchbacks working properly. I’ve swapped both of the flashers to the ones you listed and one bulb of each side illuminate while using the signals. Does the same with the four ways on. I haven’t changed the taillights out to led yet, I’m hoping when I do it will fix whatever is going on with the front running/turn lights…..I’ll let you know! I’m still catching up with all your content. Everything I’ve seen so far is awesome! Keep up the great work!! Btw I’m retired Army myself.

@@jaramieterrell First Thank you for your service! the electronic flashers modules should work with either type of bulb. the old analog flashers are based on voltage. The electronic units are just on/off they don't care what's attached. more than likely its a ground issue. depending on the year and options there may only be one ground wire for the tail lights. its on the frame just to the left of spare. it could be corraded or frayed. LEDs need very good ground too. you may want to put a separate ground for each taillight. Also if you have not checked or replaced your taillights check the taillight circuit board, they can get corroded very easy too (that's where this started for me) if your lights are good, you can get just the circuit board at any parts store Dorman has them for about $30 a set.

@@NavyDad your worth it Sir! Thank you!! I’d do it all again if they would let me. So I swapped all bulbs out for LEDs. It’s a 94’ GMC Sierra btw. I checked and rechecked all the grounds . Taillight/reverse all work as they should. I’m still only getting half the front turns working…..wish I could send you a video so you could see what they’re doin…it’s very frustrating the switchback front turn/running lights I purchased off Amazon said they were pre-chipped plug and play, not true something is a miss.
@jaramieterrell2 жыл бұрын
I found the culprit! The front turn/park light twist sockets fixtures were caked with some sort of plumbers putty looking shit that wasn’t allowing a good ground! Everything is working perfectly now! Thank you again for all your work and help! Much appreciated!

Man I wish I'd seen this before I bought a sh!ty pair of TYC replacements. A lot of folks said they were a lot better than the replacement Dorman circuit pads I had. Theirs's may have been but the pair I got wouldn't work out of the box! Had to fiddle fuc with them several hours to get all the lights working! Damnit! Only thing I wonder is how yours are holding up, granted you haven't had them too long. The few negatives on amazon are that the plastic mount tabs can break, they can leak, and fitment problems. Also wonder if there's a way to retrofit just the 1/4 turn sockets into the old light housing?
@NavyDad3 жыл бұрын
no issues so far and no broken tabs and I've had them on and off several times

I drive a 1995 C1500 silverado. I have a 700R4 in my truck, my reverse lights dont work. Do I have to have a manual switch to turn them on
@NavyDad2 жыл бұрын
Hi the first thing to do is check the neutral safety (backup) switch at the bottom of the steering column. They ware out this is it www.summitracing.com/parts/smp-ns41?seid=srese1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAu62QBhC7ARIsALXijXQ5t44u5krUT4gIdV9EpdkJKkIdE1LeB8B1UPln-pG_m9X9o4sQRKYaAh5sEALw_wcB you can check it with a meter. if that is not it, check all the wires and make sure noting is broken. There is also a switch on the transmission but those dont go bad very often, but the harness could be broken or just unplugged. and Check ALL of the ground wires too
@alanm30793 жыл бұрын
Didn't they come with a wire harness plug play wire harness why did change it
@NavyDad3 жыл бұрын
Yes.. but only factory style which is dim compared to modern trucks where only One bulb of the two on each side lights for brake and turn. This upgrade allows for Both bulbs on each side to light up for brake and turn like a modern truck, brighter and safer especially when upgrading to LEDs.
