I'll never forget the first community day, I was working weekends at the time and I only caught one shiny female Pikachu which I decided to name after my grandmother as she passed away on that day. Normally I don't care about gym control but I will take out the gym that's at the cemetery she's buried at and I will place that Pikachu on the gym when I pass by as a way to remember her.

I caught a Lapras at my church, I had gotten Pokémon go 4 months prior and was absolutely horrible at it. I ran up to my mom’s car as she was pulling away and said I need your phone for two seconds, and she gave me it. I was the only one to catch it. I named it Laura.

I still have my Day 1 starter. I was in LA for the launch and remember the park and beaches PACKED with people. It was like the entire city (and really the entire country) was all part of one big…thing. Hard to describe. Like a festival or event that was happening everywhere and everyone was participating. It’s so insane to think looking back how that really was a once in a lifetime type of experience.

I vividly remember that in 2016 lures worked on pokemon and people. Where ever you dropped one, people would appear shortly after. My friend and I would grind at a community college, and whenever we dropped lures, people would start crowding around, lol.

I remember about 20 of us sitting on the grass on a lunch time with incense and lures just grinding for an hour before we all went back to work! and before the game came out in the UK there was a sorta hush hush among those who played early after getting the game from trips overseas!

So much stuff. A lot should’ve stayed (like good bundles, low prices, and legendaries in weekly breakthroughs) but a lot of the new stuff (shinies, graduation from EX raids to regular 5* raids, remote pass introduction) was good. Idk just feels like the game went from good, to better, to ALMOST best, and now it’s on another downward curve. It’s just a question of ‘can Niantic pull I out of their nosedive’

As someone who just came back last month after playing in 2016 i can tell you the number 1 rule is DO NOT TRANSFER 2018 or older Pokémon! You get 25 Guarantied lucky trades with those and they raise the cap every few years so they might come in handy again in the future. I unfortunately didn't learn this until it was almost to late and only had a handful of my OGs left...

Oh boy... I still remember much of these. I played from the start, took a several monthlong break and returned when the first baby Pokemon were released. I've pretty much been playing ever since. Still have my Armoured Mewtwo! I have around 6 Pokemon in my collection from 2016. I wish they'd bring back the EX Raid.

I remember back in 2016 a alakazam spawned and I ran out of my apartment to get it. As the footsteps marker got down to one my game crashed. Couldn’t remember how long later but when servers came back up the alakazam was gone. I was furious lol

I've been wanting to play Pokemon Go ever since it was released. but the phone I had at the time wasn't able to download. then when I got a new phone I downloaded and picked a starter, but when I had to type in my username, it always said "that name is not available". I struggled with that for years until I finally solved it and started playing in 2020 and ever since then I keep playing it to this day, still addicted XD

I remember catching a wild Dragonite a few weeks into the start of the game. The gyms were definitely a pain to beat when people stacked Blissies. Good times straight from day 1!!! It really is interesting to think about how the game used to be, even in the times just before COVID changed things!

I remember in 2016 when me and my buddy were at his cabin which for some reason had crazy spawns. We’d walk to this gas station in town and on our way back (this place had notoriously insane spawns at the time Lapras, dratinis etc) and I said watch a porygon spawn when we get back. Soon enough we got to the spot by his cabin and a porygon spawned and we freaked out. Such a cool memory too bad to hear they aren’t rare anymore

The original regional Pokémon was not Corsola. They were three Kanto Pokémon and an ultra unlock resulted in them getting their shiny turned on.

a crazy thing i remember from back in the day pokemon go was released, is crime stats. The was a huge signifact drop in crime those first months which seemed to be globally, not because (just) criminals were too busy playing the game, but because so many people were on the street all day AND night, that criminals feared they would be caught.

On the first community day, you could use a tm for the move so i used a tm to give my santa hat pikachu the community day move. I think this makes it pretty rare.

13:36 Kanto tour in 2019??? 14:24 Meltan or Nutto if I remember correctly? I am not an OG OG but I started playing the game in 2016 but I stopped as soon as there was news about international spying going on with Pokemon GO. It wasn't until the summer of 2019 that I came back and I've been playing every day ever since then. The biggest OG moment for me from 2019 was enjoying the lackluster team rocket event. Since the TGR leaders came out in November 2019 and I was working 9-5 job. I used to leave at 6 am and come back after 9 pm and I heard people on discord talking about Cliff, Arlo and Sierra and how we needed to defeat all three of them to get to Giovanni. It took me 3 weekends just to do the research quest and in that way I even missed the shadow Articuno from November 2019 and my first legendary shadow were 2 Zapdos from December 2019.

Whenever free e.g weekend or friday nite I used to drive all the way to lake park just to grind magicarb. Gyrados was legendary back then.. now becomes memory in my pokedex.

My oldest 4* pokemon is a Gyarados from 9/7/2016. I caught it as a Magikarp, and it took FOREVER to get candy to evolve, because it took 400 candy, and there was no Buddy pokemon. I think I had to scrounge for Magikarp candy until 2019 before I finally had enough.

I remember the 2 star and 4 star raids. It was an easy system to get. 1 star was solo, 2 star required 1-2 ppl, 3 star required 2-3 ppl, 4 star required 3-4, and of course(like today) 5 star required 5+ ppl.

I completely missed the first community day because I was absolutely devastated after a night out and had a terrible hangover. Woke up like 30 minutes before the event was set to end and barely got to walk 10 minutes to catch a handful of Pikachu. The shiny had to wait until the December community recap.

i am a day one player (7.9.16)... i took a break from pokemon around the time Armored Mewtwo was in the raids, i didnt get it since there wasnt a huge community to help with the raid...but, when i came back i realized that i had Gardevoir (possible a kirilia at the time for the candy) as my buddy. its clocked in at 468 days as my buddy.

There was a weird early days glitch, where the higher the Pokedex number pokemon had better IVs. Still got some Rhidons, and Eevees from those days. Also in the early days Vaporeon was the best Pokemon for attacking gyms (you couldn't use it for anything else - no battling or raids back then) as it had some of the best bulk, attack and spamable power attacks avalible at the time.

I remember the way a single person could train up a gym to level 10 with a magikarp! I did that at my local one but unfortunately someone could simply come along and attack the gym undoing all your hard work even while you were currently building it up

I remember getting an ex raid pass for a gym in a town 20 miles away, after only spinning the gym's stop once. At the time you needed at least a silver badge for that gym and only 40 ex raid passes per gym raid, were released. Niantic admitted they messed up. Funny thing is I turned up for ex raid, I caught my first Mewtwo with roughly a hundred other trainers. 😊

I actually was able to catch a Shellos when it was accidentally released on April 29, 2019. If anyone remembers that, it was only available for like 5min before it was taken out and then later released on may 19th 2019. Good ole days. I still have that pre-released Gastradon in my storage :)

Hello, I remember I started in 2016 and I remember these good moments. You forget to speak about "dead zones", the stranges names in th gyms wich has been removed, the differents pokedex at the begining only the main pokedex was lunch no gender, the time and the hope that the servers accept to let us play due to the amount of players. No possibilty to change our color team, They were less animation of our avatar. The drop rate of some items witch was totally crasy and also the only way to add a pokestop was tu use the old niantic application. The hunt of niantic to ban flyers, with create some bugs with normal players. And nearly none event was with money. What a fun game, still love it !!

When pokemon go first dropped I have a dratin that is 99% from a nest by a lake that i drove by to go to college and work. I camped it so hard and that dragonite has been my go to pokemon in the early days. I got lucky and it got a great moveset after evolving.

2:30 not sure what he is saying about the old coin system. You got 10 coins per gym you had defenders (max 100 coins) when you hit the "redeem coin" button and had to wait 23hr before you could use the button again. So you could get 100 coins every 23 hrs, and you didn't need to be in for any length of time. There were times I would flip or throw into 3 or 4 gyms within 10 minutes right before hitting the button in order to max out what I got for that day.

I am not so ancient. But I was a little disappointed that you did not mention "Go Fest"!. The fiirst go fest we really had a part in was the global go fest 2021. AndTHIS was legend! Soo many different Pokemon in the raids, soo many researches, soo many tasts, sooo many shiny pokemon, so many special stuff - and just for USD 5.99 for two days! This actually made me start paying money for tickets for the game. Never ever since I had such good value for my money. So, Go Fests and the Go Fest 2021 SHOULD at least be mentioned. However, thanks for shoing a bit of the history of Pokemon Go.

When PoGo first came out it was not available yet in Europe, but only in the US. Here in Europe we had to do a trick to fool the app store thinking we were in the US to be able to download the game (a week early).

I really hated that they made legends exclusive to raids. I didn’t have many friends, had bad pokemon, but really wanted the pokemon. That’s one of the reasons why I quit so early on. During lockdown I returned, go a couple legends and shinies, but just stopped because the game changed to a grind fest that I couldn’t do.

I travelled to a city over an hour away to do Articuno raids. I actually got a shiny on my first raid. By then, i was pouring the rain. I showed everyone my shiny and then headed to the car. Still the best raid ever for me.

I actually caught a wild shiny gyarados during that event. I was walking around N building at Algonquin College super late at night and it showed up with 0 stars and 700 cp. I caught her before I’d ever found a shiny magikarp, which was even cooler. These days, she is one of my best buddies and is sitting at level 50. Her name is OGyarados
