I agree with giving your stuff to a crafter. I gave away all of my crochet patterns and yarn to a new crochet person. It made getting rid of it feel a lot better. After listening to this video, I realized that I really haven’t liked my old bronzer and blush . I bought a better one and I keep going past the old ones. The old ones are years old. Even though I Decluttered that area, I guess this is the second pass. I got rid of the old ones Congratulations on the camera! And thanks for the great tips

So glad you mentioned digital clutter. People forget that is a form of clutter. I suggest people go thru their photo roll weekly and declutter duplicates ...and BACK THEM UP IN THREE PLACES!! I lost a hard drive due to failure last summer. I was elated that I had backed it up someplace else. We remodeled our kitchen two years ago. I had to take everything out of the cabinets. It was an eye opener for my husband how much we had. We now have half. 🤩 Great list!

Oh my goodness, haha..... I have five bedrooms / beds, and have extra sheets for three.... and six bathrooms..... yes, crazy older custom built house, but newer to us home.... We and our family / friends so far, have loved the house and land, and hosting events as well as guests that did come to visit and relax..... before the pandemic set in.... I tend to keep loads and loads of towels, but 5 of 6 are full baths, and I often have to change hand and kitchen towels like crazy! Lol... yep, this space is super easy to clutter and hoard! So happy you can help and give advise that I so need!

The Crafty Organize lol, I was on a roll of letting go and passing on.... We have two HS age kids, learning remote now... We also have a son away on his own, but working on his PHD, so living carefully and frugal..... goodness now, during this pandemic...... I must say, that we are using loads of items again, to entertain ourselves, cook, bake, repurpose, sew with and craft with..... it is kinda a treasure and challenge to use what I/we saved (and moved), and is also cutting out needless spending and often helping others that we know need help.... haha I love to cook, bake, sew, garden, craft, scrapbook,.... and most of all, make and send/share greeting cards! I recently during this pandemic and my kids learning from home, this last March.... well I left my super small kinda job.... that is still a heartbreaking issue/decision. I needed to be here with family (and my husband is the bread winner I stayed home, 18 yrs or more ( my job.... to get out of house, pay for others to deep clean it..... (I worked for a nonprofit org, 10 hours a week, min wage.... with huge responsibility ( it is nonprofit and I took that into the factor... and also spent many of my extra hours helping..). So, once my kids were home and in remote school last spring, my working became a situation not worth the risks, or all the volunteer and travel time. So, in short, your informational and uplifting videos, kind spirt, are such a blessing! lol we need to visit more!

As someone who doesn't own a dryer and has to dry clothes in my attic, I have and need a bunch of towels. In Germany dryers aren't nearly as common as in the US. In the attic the towels and other clothes take days to dry in winter or don't dry completely without hanging them near the radiator in the living room for the last bit. I don't want all the moisture in my apartment, so I need to use the attic. Also my cats wouldn't be happy with a drying rack in the hallway where they have their racing track. 😂

I love all your tips. I think I can easily get rid of 20 cosmetic things, at least. Just a note: folks should check with their local sanitation Dept for special instructions on how to dispose of paint cans or sprays; household or automotive batteries; digital or techy items. Some computer stores take the techy things and some hardware stores take used batteries. My borough has a once yearly recycling and paper shredding event but this year the pandemic put a kabosh on it.

I can probably find a few items in the linen closet - but I am a Towel Ho, and need my towels 😐 My junk drawer -I must toot my horn here - is very neat and organized. I use everything in it regularly. Under the bathroom sink is spooky territory. It's an old vanity and it's big. Big and full. That may be my best place to start to get the incentive I need to move along. My closet is tough - I have said before I have a Hoarder 's brain, and that is difficult at times. Oh I just KNOW there will be an occasion where I can wear this. Yes I do need \want all of my cardigans and hoodies. I probably have 10 pairs of shoes including snow boots so I think they're all keepers. Blah blah blah... Things that belonged to loved ones I have lost ??- yeah I put the mental in sentimental! BUT I like you and your ideas and I want to try. Bathroom sink here I come 😬 I mean 😁

Long story short - I decided to do the sink counter first in bathroom today. Old toothbrushes replaced with fresh ones, 2 empty travel cases for toothbrushes that were ucky, EMPTY toothpaste tubes, and an empty shampoo bottle -- total 14 items! Yay! Not just in one room, one small area. I honestly had other things to get done today so under the sink has to wait until Monday (going to a bbq tomorrow) but I have incentive - my counter looks so nice! Thanks for your constant encouragement 😊

Good ideas! Some I already do! Really love the craft one! I do a lot of different crafts some could consider kiddish like the boxes kits you can get that I no longer 100% into anymore but can't seem to 'get rid of' Cause its a craft. Maybe gift it to someone else! Even though I have a junk drawer in the kitchen its mostly just user guides and markers. My "junk drawer' is the basket or mini tote of random stationery or craft supplies that are little that I just don't want to dump into a trash bin but takes forever and a lot out of me to go through even half of one, let alone all of them. Been working on organizing my craftroom better but they are still eye sores I just not sure what to do with.

Great tips, as always, Norrine. When it comes to out date pantry items, I always check still tasty dot com before getting rid of things. Many food goods last longer than that date. Still Tasty has saved a lot of food from being tossed in our home with their informative site. It doesn't go by brand, but by type of food. Most dates now are "best by", meaning the manufacturer chooses a date they feel will give the optimal taste. The site also tells you what to look for as signs of it's no longer edible. I'm a keeper of boxes items came in. It came from early in our marriage when we moved a lot. I would say for those that do move a lot, such as military families, keeping the boxes isn't a bad thing. They rely on others to pack their goods up, so having those boxes to keep each item packed super safe is comforting. Even if you pack yourself, with these boxes and all their innards, it's peace of mind knowing you won't have broken items when you arrive at your new home. If you are only keeping them because you might need to return the item, mark the return by date on a calendar and toss the box once you've passed that point.
@TheCraftyOrganizer4 жыл бұрын
Yes! Thank you for that resource! I had done a video on "Feel good reasons to purge" and I'd talked about places food could still be donated/used. But missed it this time. Thank you SO much for sharing that site and letting others know. 💜

Over the past year, I have given away two complete wardrobes as I downsized ME! I bought new towels for two of our bathrooms and donated a ton of towels, (bath and hand), washcloths, a shower curtain with it's matching rug! I have four or five boxes sitting in the garage of things I've decided to donate since the pandemic started. I don't know if they are accepting donations in this area yet (Nebraska has just be added, AGAIN, to Chicago's block list.). Our Republican governor is following Trump's horrible example of no action or bad actions to stop the spread of Covid-19. But the makeup idea is one I will follow up on, what a GREAT idea! We used to be two of those people who saved boxes. But we've gotten better about getting rid of them once the warranties expire. (Except now we are saving cardboard for a HUGH area in our back yard that needs to be re-mulched and we plan to use the cardboard under the new mulch to help it last longer in an environmentally friendly way!). Thanks again for your videos, it's always a pleasure to see your smiling face!

Two wardrobes?!?! You rock!!!!!! Hope the donation places open for you soon. Many churches are taking things to sell themselves, to raise money for their communities. A few calls may be worth a try. 🌺

I have been looking at your videos, and I want to see all of them. How many videos do you have? Also I have a boatload if DVDs. I got rid of all my VHSs, but I don’t yet want to let go of the DVDs. What’s the best way to store them? I have a lot!

Hi, Cynthia! I have about 155 videos. You can watch them all here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5WVq3d7arBjhs0 I'd store them in binders! They sell sheet protectors where you can store them double sided on one sheet!!!! Imagine, 8 DVD's in the space of 1/4 inch!!!! You can have these binders by genre, or alphabetically! But, it does mean letting go of the cases. If that's something you would do... here's the sleeves: www.staples.com/ideastream-vaultz-two-sided-cd-refill-pages-for-three-ring-binder-black-clear-25-pk/product_IDEVZ01401?cid=PS:GooglePLAs:IDEVZ01401&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=IDEVZ01401&KPID=IDEVZ01401&gclid=Cj0KCQjwnqH7BRDdARIsACTSAdtHw-pegLpmSyyiv1yM7TtdSI3-j6xTS1MjY53BXcscuwhn8ambF6oaAnfkEALw_wcB

OK got a questioon for you. I still have a desktop computer that I haven't touched in about 12 years, and I am afraid to just take it to the dead electronic place. My reason is that when the company I was working for shut down they gave several of us from the office our machines we used at work. They were "scrubed" but mine at least was not clean, and I did the payroll for 300+ employees. Some of the data is still there, I have seen it. The hard drive needs to be destroyed. Any sugestions? I know how to remove it, but how much violence is needed to really kills it?

I took my hard drive out and 'watered' it for several weeks..... it finally started to rust/corrode. Only THEN did I smash it to bits and discard. Pretty sure it will never resurrect. LOL

Okay I think my talking about you has made your common sense rub off on Joe. We are together 13 years, so he knows and understands me. I lost my daughter, so getting rid of items tied to her is very tough. He is very understanding. Today, however, we were in Home Goods and I saw a set of really cute Halloween mugs in their own vertical - small footprint - stand. I said I would really like to get these. He said I'll make a deal with you. I will support you getting these because they are cute- there are 4 mugs - 4 of us in the house - we don't have any Halloween ones -- but you have to get rid of 4 of the cluster *#£× of mugs in the cabinet. Four for four. My instant response was these won't even go in the cabinet - they have a stand. I don't care - 4 for 4 is the deal. I said fine Clutter Fairy Jr - deal! And yes I purged 4 + 3 more! Yay
