This MacBook saw many years of abuse from its previous owner, thankfully it landed into my hands and now its time is was brought back to brand new condition.
I purchased this MacBook Pro for $100, with it came with a brand new Apple charger still in plastic (valued at $120). So I basically purchased a new charger and received a free MacBook Pro...

There is a glitch issue for about 7 seconds at 6:45, it is an issue on KZbins end as the original file doesn't have the issue. No idea why it occurred but regardless enjoy the video. Also for those who thought I didn't clean the logic board, I did but I removed the clip from the video when editing. I didn't leave it as it was at the beginning but in saying that I didn't make it spotless anyway much better than it was. :)

Great restoration, I can see why you went for replacing the frame and other components since the old frame was in such rough condition. Also nice customizations! Though a couple of the ports and the motherboard could have been cleaned a bit better, the RAM could do with being upgraded to 8GB, and I'd have personally installed OS X 10.11 instead of 10.9. A lot of programs now, even Google Chrome and Spotify, require OS X 10.11 or better.

My old 2011 MBP has almost the same dent/bend near the Ethernet jack, it's due to the thinness of the case section in that area. The day my (then) 5 y/o daughter sent it flying across the room when she tripped over a cable connected to a USB, I completely freaked as my Mac cartwheeled across the floor, getting the afore-mentioned bend and also a big dent at the top right corner of the display. Remarkably, nothing, including the 1TB disk drive sustained functional damage. Ultimately, I replaced the HDD with a SSD to give it a speed boost, but this soon to be 9 year old MBP is still in service as a net TV and media server for my now 12 year old daughter, who just got an upgrade with a new 2019 MBP for Christmas. But she learned to work and code on the old beat-up box and she loves to show people the damage and dramatically exclaim "I did that when I was a baby, but it still works!". So I'm not surprised to see you can rescue an old MBP.

If you're looking at purchasing a macbook I would definitely recommend preowed or refurbished as you will get much more for your money. I bought a 2013 i5 air in 2015 for 300 AUD. It still works perfectly now even after daily use for years. I've never had to replace and the only repair I've done is removing dust from the fans.

This comments section is toxic af 😂😂 The purpose was not to be economical or practical, it was to have an old device work like new again 🤦🏽 it’s like you don’t buy an old trashed car and do it up over months and years because it’s “economical” or “Practical” . You do it for the fun and enjoyment and hobby aspect of it. The satisfaction of brining something back from the dead so to speak. And my first ever MacBook Pro was this exact model from 2011/12 and honestly I regret selling it. They were a really nice solid build, not all thin and light with no key-stroke travel like the current ones.

If you buying any use parts you didn't have any warranty but you will not pay full retail price for your device like in this case. You will end with device for good price, fraction of a cost of brand new when it hit the market. If you have to replace any broken parts just watch your budget. This device you will be in use anyway so after years by it will be worn. Treat device as a tool. If it works and done good it's job why you should change any?

As a builder and Tech enthusiast, I found this restoration almost beautiful... Except the part where the board/fans/cables weren't blown out with Compressed air and cleaned with Alcohol. Also, while it's not STRICTLY necessary to spread the paste out [pressure will do that] either way is acceptable [except that huge piece of hair stuck to your spudger while spreading >.> Don't contaminate the paste :P Yeah, I'm nitpicking. . sue me. .but overall I really enjoyed watching this ^^

Blowing PC parts with compressed air just forces dust INTO the nooks and crannies and ports. Instead use a small handheld vacuum (the kind that are $15 on amazon, used to be known as dustbusters) and a tiny soft paint brush to dislodge the dust as you go.
@mindinversions4487
@mindinversions4487 5 жыл бұрын
@@blueridge8992 You need to be careful with that, as vacuums, even hand held ones, CAN cause static. You're not wrong about the potential issues with compressed air, especially if the dust is old and kinda sticky-ish, hence the alcohol suggestion. ALso, a gentle bristly paintbrush is a GREAT tool for getting loose debris off of motherboards

In iFixit: -Lower case: $150 -Upper case with kb: $150 Couldn't find a screen cover, only the whole thing with screen ($400), so a took a look in eBay: -Second hand good condition (not perfect, though) screen casing: $75 Adding the cost of the MBP itself, all that sums $475 (I have not taken into account battery and SSD HD). hi guys! I have a pro account with iFixit, which is something you can get with a free application The rates I see for the parts in this video are as follows: Upper case 49.99 Lower case 59.99 I am fairly sure iFixit doesn't sell the top case as it features the apple logo, which, given recent import issues across the world with parts that have an apple logo (iPhone back cases being a prime example) makes sense. I do not see any issues with these prices, as they usually beat out what I see on ebay/etc. Feel free to call me wrong or an idiot if you think I'm shilling for ifixit but I've worked with them for years and can assure you that they aren't in the practice of scamming novice repair people.

Amelia Pytosh The real question is why video author does not mention prices at all, something essential in any restoration, even more when he tries to sell it as a “bargain”. What’s more: even with your prices (add screen casing and screen front glass -which I forgot to add to the addition-), total amount is easily over 300€, and for that price you can get a good condition 2012 13” MBP at eBay: i.imgur.com/IdTnTaP_d.jpg?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium
