I’m in the same camp as you, Jeff. I remember shooting 40” plus axle to axle bows, radical cams when 65% was considered great, “back in the day”. A 35” to 37” bow was considered short, lol. I’ve still got a couple of “dial-a-prayer” Toxonics Nail Drivers that I used for 3D. Amazing at how much archery has advanced since the early 90s. When Chris said that he wasn’t even born in ‘96 your expression was priceless.

Best bow I shot for years was a Mathews Signature with a very long riser circa 97. It had a great feel & a custom Mathew McPherson grip made of wood like his great guitars for hipsters. However the bows today r much more efficient.

I will only shoot 40 yards max with my compound, a little more with my Nitro XRT, but I don’t like shooting long distances with the bow. My dad wants a lighter bow. Are Matthew bows lighter than the dimiound BowTech bows?
@zachbrueggeman97484 жыл бұрын
Mathew's made a great light weight bow a few yrs ago and it's still what I shoot today .it's the heli-m . I've shot some of the new bows but I still can't justify the cost of new vs what I'm shooting. I'm a huge fan of the solocam bows kinda sad to see that era ending .
@calebfrank28074 жыл бұрын
Ok thanks
@whitetailhabitatsolutions97514 жыл бұрын
Hi Caleb I'm not s fan of light bows at all...only light components. The lighter the bow the mass to absorb sound, vibration and stored energy. That's why the lightest bows are the loudest...unless the amount of energy they store is low. The old solo cam bows were slow...I've shot them all. I used to add a lot of weight to them because you can typically shoot better with more weight - to a point. I'm personally hoping that mathews sticks with a more balanced bow...a huge reason they have the quietest bow's on the market. "A lighter isn't a better bow" I guess they found or they would have continued down that trend. Hope that makes sense? I'm not even sure of the weight as I just pick it up and shoot it.

I have sold 100s of Mathews bows in the last 5 years. I own a Halon, Halon 32, Vertix, and VXR. There is almost zero difference between them in live application. The grips are different, and the VXR is a little quieter, and has a little less hand shock. Hardly noticeable to 80% of shooters. Since the Halon Mathews has hardly changed anything about their bows. The risers, cams, mods, and limbs are so close they are almost interchangeable. You have to go back a year before the Halon, to the NO Cam. Now the No Cam was a very different bow, and old tech. But since the 2016 Halon there is hardly any difference. That is the only thing I hate about videos like these. They are just sales adds / 20 minute long commercials.

@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 IBO ratings for the VXR bows are 10 fps more than what my Solo Cam shows for its speed. Gaining an Extra 10 fps is not worth $1000 from my view. It kills deer, doesn't get out of tune, super quiet, and has a super smooth draw. If they actually advance the technology i'll look into a new bow otherwise it will be 10-15yrs before I start looking.

U can buy raw shafts & nock tune them. Once u have a bow that is perfect centershot it will shoot unfletched arrows straight in the target & your proper spine will be achieved. Then u can fletch them & shoot fixed blade high quality broadheads tight on the shoulder & get pass throughs so u won't have to shoot the mechanical heads. To me a mechanical is a band-aid approach when surgery is needed. No half measures when it comes to shooting a mature whitetail target buck.
