Revolutionize Your Wardrobe: A Century of Fashion Evolution
Okay, ladies, do I have a fun video for you today? I love history, and fashion history is no exception. Whenever I share tidbits with you on videos from when the pencil skirt came into vogue or the backstory on the Canadian Tuxedo, I always receive many positive comments. So, I thought I would devote an entire video to 100 years of fashion from the 1920’s to the 2020’s. Are you ready to embark on a sartorial journey through the transformative evolution of fashion over the past century? Watching how we went from the Roaring Twenties to the Modern Era is very interesting. Fashion has ebbed and flowed from flappers to power suits to streetwear, and today, it focuses on sustainability. Style has always been a powerful form of self-expression and has been a visual marker of societal changes.

My mother was born in Scotland in 1909. When she was 17, she came to this country. I have a photo of her at Ellis Island wearing high black boots, a long wool coat and a cloche hat. She looked adorable! She wore dresses until the late 1960's when she first donned a pair of slacks. It's hard to believe today.

Mary, I’ll bet she was so elegant as many women were. I have pictures of my parents in the 60’s and my father always wore a suit and my mother was dressed to the “T” ( she still does). Cherish that photo.

The 50's fashion is my favorite...I remember my mother and my aunts wearing these beautiful dresses with full skirts, high heels to go shopping (!) I love the dresses Grace Kelly wore in her movies, she was so elegant. And it was fun to remember what I wore in the late 60's and 70's! Thank you for this interesting trip down memory lane!

Love this video. Have always been interested in fashion have a sister who studied fashion when she was younger. We have always been ones who would try the new styles, the new trends, and now that we are older we know what we like. We know what looks good on us, but we will always look forward to seeing where fashion goes.

The 1940’s - 1950’s is my favorite fashion era. I wore dresses up until I went to high school in 1970 I never wore pants. I don’t know if everybody in my generation was that way, but we didn’t have a wardrobe with pants. We couldn’t wear pants to school until the 1970s.😊

I wish you were 100% correct about the trend toward sustainability. It's true that more companies and brands are making the effort. Sadly, we are still dealing with the effects of "fast fashion," with super-trendy clothing being made and sold cheap each season, only to end up in a landfill in Africa in six months. I suppose that is one good reason to buy classic pieces that will last for years--it's more environmentally friendly, not to mention more friendly toward the workers who produce it. You used a lot of examples from various movies in this vid. I'm wondering--do you have a favorite movie that centers on the fashion industry, and/or in which fashion plays a major role? I still love The Devil Wears Prada. More recently, I really enjoyed Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris. The costumers did a wonderful job of recreating Dior's haute couture New Look outfits. Lots of petticoats!

When the population at large is finally convinced that cheaper isn't better that's when the tide will really turn. We have to remember it's US who want something for nothing...
