100 Yr. Old Reclaimed 'Ironwood' Vs. Metal Detector

This wood is over 100 years old, they call it "ironwood' BC it was harvested from old growth forests that made the wood way more dense than wood today! Plus this wood has nails in it...And I need to cut it with my saws and their expensive saw blades.
Im going to use the lumber wizard 5 to try and find out where ALL the old nails are BEFORE cutting into this wood with $100 saw blades.

I've always called Belian, Ironwood. It's super dense, heavy, and used to build structures in the rainforest that last hundreds of years.

Interesting. If it was river reclaimed then there would be color changes. Not enough material for most utilitarian projects. Perhaps slicing into 1/8" strips for veneer project with walnut dividers? In the desert southwest we have extremely dense wood termed ironwood.

I have a bunch of it. Was thinking about a butcher block, oaks not ideal for butcher block and I’d have to use epoxy or something to fill cracks but it would look cool I think. Thanks for the comment!

Butcher block would be problematic. How about a free standing era correct ice chest or pie cabinet? Would make an interesting video of whole process.

@@MakerBoyOldBoy thank you for the suggestions! When you say ice chest I’m just picturing an amazing looking wooden cooler 😁. I’ll have to look up some examples of an ice chest!
