I think when discussing the BMW i3 it should be mentioned what the car was built for. It is not a vehicle for long distance driving, although with careful planning it can be done. This is an urban car by design and intent. It has one of the best turning radius of all vehicles, it parks itself, it's running cost is extremely low, and finally the quality is fantastic. The car was designed from the ground up, not an alteration to any existing combustion vehicle and the use of carbon fiber works well for safety and providing light weight. What sold me the most was how fun it is to drive! It has so many features that most sales people don't know about, like holding the lock button down will retract the side mirrors and roll up the windows (all of them). The software is really helpful in saving destinations, giving directions and updating when the next maintenance is needed. (although it would be rare to need any mechanical maintenance) You can download the i3 app and allows you to start the car's heating or air conditioning before you enter. On the con side, the tires wear quickly (about 20K miles) and cost about $700 to replace, and the back passenger doors take some getting use to. Although this car is more of a two person vehicle.

Great video. I'm interested in how an i3 works on long trips. This was helpful. What is interested too is how much Sweden and Minnesota look similar.

Thanks for the long range video. I have bought an i3s and I take delivery in December 2020. I will mostly be using as a city car the mean average temperature here in the UK is 10°c most of my journeys are only 15-35 miles per day. I don't have access to a charger at home however there are 50kw charging stations a mile away from me in any direction. I can't wait to take delivery.

Excellent test! Thanks for sharing! My calc/driving in the same car show that driving at 120 km/hr and charge more often should give a less time on 1000 km. However, there must be chargers available!

Very good film. Well produced and informative. Thank you for posting it. I too have BMW i3S KZbin channel. The i3S is a superb car and will prove over time, that BMW designed a winning electric vehicle. Enjoyed watching your film. Thank you

This is why many people avoid electric cars because its so confusing with the charging and you have to constantly watch the range meter and adjust your driving to conserve energy. You have to know how fast your onboard charger can charge at these DC Fast Charging places.. The i3 is primarily a city car and I personally would only take it occasionally on the freeway for long journeys (very skillfully planned journeys that have lots of DC fast chargers).

Finally, BMW is coming to its senses. Now if we can just get that price down to match its size. 30K is reasonable.

I did Sunderland to London in my i3 bev charged 3 times at a cost £22 so in total £44 with return trip. If i had used my previous car which was a range rover vogue 3.0ltr think it would have cost a fortune.

Great video... what was the price for the trip ?
@electricbimmertravels39854 жыл бұрын
Torben Jensen Thanks! During my run the cost was 8€ for one charge session. Thus summing up to 40€ plus the cost of the full charge I started with (about 4€). But now Ionity charges up to 8€ for 10 kWh resulting in a 4 times increase in cost.

@@electricbimmertravels3985 Ionity sucks in Sweden. Greedy bs.

Great video! Did you use the driver assist anything and how does it sork in that case? Do you think it is stabile in highway conditions and is it unset or more sensitive to the rather bad roads at points in Sweden?
@peterohman82424 жыл бұрын
Kenneth Mattfolk I used the adaptive cruise control and it has limited use (lacking radar). The steering assist is only for queue driving at highways at low speed. Not very useful.

What was the driving mode you used for the whole journey? Eco Plus? Speed limit maintaining at 120kph for 80% of the drive?
