Thanks for the great vid. I’ve had my 2008 NC for 5-years and I’ve added 100K kilometres to the 116k that it had when I bought it and it still goes like a dream with regular servicing. In my 48-years of driving and having had about a dozen cars, this is the one that’s given me the most enjoyment. Admittedly it’s 1 of 3 cars I currently have but it’s the one I drive the most. At my age of 63, I’ll be keeping it for life and I will actually look at a new paint job, etc in the next year or so, as opposed to getting the ND as this generation has the most cabin space of all the MX5. RE the handbrake and cup-holder leg problem. I’m not as tall as you and so I haven’t got that issue. BOOT. You may have discovered by now that the reason the key fob or internal boot release aren’t working, little switch on the reverse of the side of the number plate sits may have been hit when carrying items in the boot. Tyres - Have found the Bridgestone Potenza RE003s’ to be fantastic in the dry and wet and at they’re at least half the price of the Michelins. Have a great 2021

I'm watching everything MX-5 on KZbin. I want one to use as a Saturday car. Just a fun car. Great job on your videos. I just watched the one where you changed the brake pads. Anyway, in this video right here, you pulled down the visor and found Japanese text on a label. Just googled it with Google Translate. It says Poppy. Which is probably the Mazda name for the Red color of the car. If you find anymore Japanese text, just download Google Translate and enable the camera function, it will translate the text in realtime.

the small piece of plastic underneath the badge on the boot door is actually a placeholder for the button that opens the boot. the NCs (also 2006) with SmartKey have a button to open the boot and it's placed in that exact spot. the window buttons are not faulty on your car, it's the same design on all NC1s, not sure on the face lifted newer versions though. the handbrake bothers you because you're driving from the wrong side of the car :))

AL P well I never... Learn something new every day, thanks for commenting! I also think that the footwell is designed for a left hand drive car as the transmission tunnel has a lump in it that eats into legroom also!

The plastic of the boot is there from factory. I used it to install a rear view camera for parking. You can't even see the camera unless you look a bit underneath the car. You can also open the boot from the 3rd button on the key of the car in case you didn't know. Just celebrated my 2-year anniversary with my RC. You should consider installing Tein Flex Z coilovers. They transform the car! Also, I tried a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 and they really suit the car. There is so much grip, especially in the rain when they get hot and amazing tyre wear as well.

I have the mk 3.5 and the key fob includes a boot release so there are 3 ways to open it. By the way some special editions had the dark grey wheels such as the sport black etc. Must admit I dont have the same issues with the handbrake and I am 5ft 10 but they did improve the cup holder size to prevent the problem. I think there were several useful improvements with the 3.5. Thanks for the video.
@CarThought
@CarThought 4 жыл бұрын
I have heard about these snazzy boot release buttons since filming, I need one! Haha. They also did a ‘graphite’ edition which had some similar wheels, although they seem to be a maroon red. As you say, I think the 3.5 they fixed a lot of the niggles of the 3, wonder if they’ll do that on the mk4! Thanks for the support

The hand break is sticking into your leg because it's bent towards you, eventually it will stop working because of it being so out of shape the button cannot be depressed it happened to mine because my handbrake needed tightening so I was pulling on it quite hard to get it to bite, the fix is to just bend it back towards the passenger side.

Remember that more grippy tires will break away more suddenly and may not be a good idea for someone learning RWD. I run BF Goodrich Gforce comp 2 summer tires. They are grippy but not too grippy. I learned to control the rear end quite well with these tires and also because of the great balance and confidence that the MX5 inspires. I could never dance a Mini around like I can the MX5.

I think I need tuition, when the car has span out, there’s no way I can catch it. But both times have been in the wet. Mine does have a pretty aggressive alignment for the track which I think has a lot to do with it.

I have to say I wonder why you bought the car. It is a sports car and of course it is a bit compromised regarding space. However, most of your criticisms are so odd, I really do wonder why you bought it? I’ve been around the block a few times, but I find mine to be a thoroughly practical, well thought out vehicle.
@CarThought
@CarThought 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Robert, a little confused though. Bought it because I wanted to...! 😂 don’t think the criticisms are that odd.. Practicality isn’t this cars strong point and as a vehicle it has many flaws against cars of the same age (BMW Z4, Porsche Boxster, Honda S2000), let alone newer vehicles for the same price. Every vehicle has pros and cons, and that’s what’s great about the automotive industry 👍

Not being negative but this review is quite naive. Get on some descent MX-5 forums, get dome knowledge of the car and specs, performance, foibles etc then write an informed review. As said, trying to be kind but over 15 years and the various versions I've racked up over 1/4 million million miles on these cars, mostly? MK 3 variants, nodded them for fast road use and long hauls. This review is not doing the car justice due to a simple lack of knowledge.
