It isn't about striking the head pin, it's physics. The pins are pressed against each other, therefore requiring more energy to knock them down since they're also held in place with the pins behind them. It would require an enormous amount of energy to knock them down with the way they were set up. Next time put an inch or two of space in between them and it would work a lot better.

The reason that the ball bounced off the front pins and flew out of the alley is because the pins are too closely placed to each other. In this setup it's pretty much a wall. If you actually left an appropriate amount of space between the pins then it may actually work properly.

From the experience of playing this on the Wii, I THINK it DOES matter whether you are a pro bowler a lot, because I remember using my wrist a lot, and I THINK that much is actually accurate compared to reality-- you definitely need arm and wrist control to bowl well, I believe. BUT ALSO-- I think other factors need to be taken into account: 1. This Fortress is not by any means a Pyramid. It's a many layered Wall really. It's not even technically bowling at that point. You need a lane wide enough to have that nice, Pyramid/Diamond arrangement that has those perfect 'shatterpoints'. 2. AND Momentum/Weight/Mass whatever you want to call it, STRENGTH is a major issue. That's why I still don't think, even with a perfectly neat lane triangle setup, on some impossibly wide bowling lane (at least as wide as 3 lanes or more would be needed, possibly you'd need as wide as.....like....10? 20 lanes? we'll do the math at the end of this post) I think only a Bowling Machine (call the Mythbusters! :D ) or MAYBE, a Specially Trained Pro-Bowling....GORILLA?! o.O Could do it. You need A LOT of Force/Power, but you also need technique. 3. OK, so let's ask ourselves, how many rows WOULD you need? 10 pin bowling is 4 rows of 1, 2, 3, and 4, and that makes 10 pins. Let's try looking at what .....oh.....10 times as many rows gets us?! o.O 40 Rows. 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 8.......+ 35, + 36, + 37, + 38 + 39 + 40..... actually, 50 rows would be 1040 pins, 36 rows would be 666 pins, and there are a few other neat numbers you could pick as well. I think an interesting enough challenge would be 9 rows, for 45 pins, or 15 rows for 120 pins. I bet an actual Bowling Alley could be set up with 15 rows in a perfect triangle and it wouldn't take too many lanes, and Pro Bowlers could PROBABLY have a fun time challenging themselves against that. Another interesting number to pick would be 300 pins, Actually that's a GREAT number to pick, because 12 is the number of balls for a perfect game, 12 times 2 = 24, and 24 is the number of rows that 300 pins would take. AND people could yell "THIS IS SPARTA!" if they actually get a strike. Basically, "A Perfect Game to the 2nd Power". Or, "A Spartan Strike". YEAH, let's get the Mythbusters looking into THAT. :)
