For my 80th birthday got rid of mine, years living with that stupid canvas roof that constantly needed treatment. One thing the builders of this thing completely forgot is maintenance, like access to then engine, master cylinder, and hydraboost unit. Buried all this stuff with that motorhome stuff. With a carb, bowl is filled with gas and vented, in less than a week carb blow is empty, with an engine driven fuel pump, lot of cranking before it will start, added an electric fuel pump, run that for about 15 seconds, then would pop right off. For ignition timing with the 454, timing marks are on the bottom, distributor on top, takes two to adjust initial timing, can't be at both places at the same time, and the inductive pickup goes to cylinder #8, not number one. Mice got in my HVAC system, dash was on top an eight foot long piece of plywood, had to cut that in two, could not remove it in one piece to get at the duct work. Openings everywhere on these darn things, have to add screens to keep out the wasps and mice. What a mess.

Looks like both end caps are leaking up on the roof, That is a very common problem and possibly the AC units need new base gaskets. Looks like the back window was also leaking, There again a very common problem with those windows they have small slot drains that get plugged up then the water comes inside. Be sure to get those end cap seams cleaned out real well then reseal them with some Dicor or some eternibond tape......Good luck you have some work ahead of you.
@NickDe394 жыл бұрын
Ha, ground up restoration is more like it, when done, not worth much more than before you started. RV dealers around here only charge $125.00 per hour.
@gravis3464 жыл бұрын
Not really an issue now, but this spring you might re-caulk all the seams on outside of the RV, the vent covers, around the AC and remove that antenna and plug the hole.

Don't forget to replace the catalytic converter (if present) and muffler. Had to rebuild the top end of a motorhome motor ($3000!) for overlooking this! I recommend Magnaflow which is like $180 for both and also has no resistance inside.
@poiiihy4 жыл бұрын
blown head gasket?
@VinylToVideo4 жыл бұрын
@Anthony Ramsey The motorhome was from the 70s and had no cat but did have a muffler that clogged and the motor indeed required a rebuild after from a lack of breath. Also had a Cadillac where the cat went and it sounded like the engine was knocking when it ran. Eventually it stopped even running but if it had continued to the motor certainly would have blown. All issues disappeared when the exhaust was replaced.

The hill after the Montpelier exit southbound on I89 be lucky to make it at 25 mph. He zero decked the block ported the heads and intake. A set of Doug Thorley headers and a thumper cam the hill was no longer an issue.

I know it's too late, bjt when you had all the rot taken out and the problem areas exposed, it might have been a good idea to walk the roof with a garden hose and find out where all the problems were BEFORE sealing it up. THEN seal the roof FIRST...garden hose AGAIN to check for leaks....FINALLY finish off the interior. Maybe this method would have prevented the rear roof leaks you experienced on your 1, 200 mile road trip to Canada. ?..
