We often talk about how surreal it is that one week we can be in the French Alps in the snow and another week on a Scottish island - all in the same tiny home!

Only recently found your channel and am enjoying the content. I go to Les Arcs every year and have visited friends at the camp site near the end of Bourg Saint Maurice; for my family and I, the best place to stay in Bourg Saint Maurice is Hotel Arolla which is a hidden gem, and has plenty parking for your campervan.

Great video. I got a VW last year after years of pondering - we use it very much like you, sadly I’m not yet retired so I even work in it from time to time. Best thing I’ve ever done and agree with everything you’ve said.

Sounds like you do! We’ve had no regrets and years of cheap fun (apart the obvious expense of buying the van) which is why Rich had it as his daily drive for all those years

Great video guys and glad that the van has changed your lives for the better. Glad also that you have discovered our beautiful country, Scotland, as it really is a motorhomers paradise. You have also been to May wonderful places abroad which has inspired us to travel a little further afield. Thanks for sharing. Irvine & Karen.

Just found your channel - love your obvious passion for travel, exploration and both of your easy going style with minimal ‘arty’ visual interruptions - a real pleasure to watch. That photographer’s eye means all the shots are a visual delight. Some ideas: Combining your love of cycling with easier access to Europe - why not go from Hull to the Netherlands, glorious opportunity for wide skies to photograph, islands as well, wonderful cycling routes (it’s not completely flat!) fantastic food and people. Try the Cleveland Way down the East Coast, the old railway line from Whitby South is a great coastal cycle route. Expanding on your Bempton trip - Filey Bay was where early aviation started and Amy Johnson’s family came from near Bridlington, archive at Sewerby Hall. I could go on…. We’ve taken a similar route, retired to Yorkshire Coast and have a Silver Nugget campervan which we love using here and abroad. Good luck with more adventures!

Thank you for your really lovely comments, we both love photography which is one of the reasons we started the blog and KZbin. We had just been chatting today about booking our next trip from Hull as we want to explore from the Netherlands up into Norway and Denmark. We are just weighing up if we can afford it 😬 but otherwise exploring the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and into Slovenia and northern Croatia mountainous areas. Cycling wise Rich is desperate to routes like the Cleveland way, we walked from Robinhoods bay to Whitby along the old railway last year (that was a long day 🥾😊) and also cycle coast to coast at some point. It is so exciting knowing what is out there…

Keep an eye on the EGR valve failing causing engine failure, it may just be T5.1 models, there’s lots on the net about it, there was a recall on certain models

Thanks David- we have also read loads about this issue on the forums- we pass on our worries regularly to the garage whenever Nelson is in for a service!!! We also worry about the Cam Belt...but don't get me started on that😂

Hi Richard and Jackie, I am still enjoying ploughing my way through your past videos. I am probably going to ask a dumb question now. How do you wash yourself and go to the toilet when wild camping? We have always gone to campsites with facilities. Hope it isn’t too personal of a question. Thanks xx
@earlyretirementwanderlust
@earlyretirementwanderlust 10 ай бұрын
Not a daft question - we get asked regularly! We use public toilets and if away for more than a couple of nights stay at a campsite for showers and to charge laptops with electric. I do have a hozelock outdoor shower that we have used if we are any where really remote and if we are in the wild we will have a wild wee behind the van. 🚐

Another good video, yip I just wish we were still in Europe and not have the 90 day limit. Does not affect me yet, since I'm still working..... but once I'm in a similar position to you, it will be a right pain in the .......
@earlyretirementwanderlust
@earlyretirementwanderlust Жыл бұрын
I think we make it even more complicated as we can’t stay for 90 days in one go then come home for 90 due to family commitments but splitting it in smaller trips means you have to really keep an eye on it even over 6 or 7 months! I would hate to overstay by a day or 2 then be banned from returning 😬

Great videos and very informative. We are about to have our T6 converted after pondering for along while. Our main concern has been the dreaded toilet issue especially if wild camping. We will purchase a small thetford and pop up tent. Do you guys do something similar and do you manage ok for emptying points ?
@earlyretirementwanderlust
@earlyretirementwanderlust Жыл бұрын
We don’t have any facilities so tend to use public loos and pubs when needed and wee in the wild. It does cause issues if near civilisation so we tend to not stay in towns or stay on a campsite 🏕️

Hello I'm new to your channel like your video I always wanted to buy vw campervan jw how much does it cost to keep it maintenance and buy gas ?
@earlyretirementwanderlust
@earlyretirementwanderlust Жыл бұрын
Thank you. We have found the vw pretty low maintenance getting around 40mpg on many of our trips. We have it serviced regularly and replaced cam belt when needed. It is our daily run around and generally we find it no more expensive than a car. It made us realise how economical it is when we recently hired a motorhome which guzzled gas!

Hi - you mention “wild camping” a lot - in the UK. Have you had any bad experience of being moved on or challenges with local idiots causing issues ?

We are really careful where we stay, looking on p4night reviews and try to find places where it is more tolerated or with donation boxes. We have found a few favourite quiet places that we return to and so far we have never been questioned. We do feel it is harder to find places in the last couple of years and a lot of our old favourites now have no parking signs. We stay where there are no houses to be overlooked and tucked away in corners of car parks so we are not in anyone’s way. P4n is also good at highlighting where anti social behaviours by boy racers or dodgy dealings may go on 🤣

The U.K. has the most amazing Coast & countryside. It’s incredibly that you had never been to Scotland before, what where you thinking 😂Scotland has been our ‘go to’ place for forty years 😊 weekends, weeks, long stays whatever we could do. We regularly left on Friday nights after work and sped north. Many times we drove to Oban slept o/n in the van and out on the first ferry early Saturday morning to Mull & Aran. Back on the last ferry Sunday night, drove home arriving around 3am, in the office by 7.30! As well as being just fabulous being out in the countryside it helped sustain us through very stressful careers. Scotland will always be our number one destination, the contrast between the different islands and then the mainland, just fabulous. Enjoying your vlogs, thanks for sharing.

Yes we are definitely in love with Scotland now 😊 we are under 2 hours to the borders and love staying in the Glen Coe area and the Cairngorms. The islands are just something else!!! We have 2 weeks in September that we are looking to go to the Orkneys or some of the inner Hebrides as we not explored them. Any recommendations are welcome 🚐

Salty? I wouldn’t call a teaching career an easy life. They worked hard for it and it’s their choice to retire early. Why not promote love instead of negativity.

@@tessbrown9885 I went to 13 schools as a kid and saw 4 kids through school and can count on the finger's of one hand the good ones. The problem is they rarely have a job in the real world and that is a problem. On average they work 20 hours a week and can afford to retire at 50 and that cannot be right when the rest of us must work until 66 and do 40 hours+. That's the reality, like it or not.
