I always install the head before the studs. You can grease the threads on the top of the studs much easier and effectively before you install them and not having the head in your way. You don't want to risk getting the lube on the bottom of the head, so I like doing it in that order, personally. It's also possible to scratch the head surface or bugger the threads slightly while trying to fit it over the studs, which is kind of tricky compared to plopping it right on the dowels, and also shaving your front cover in this case. My biggest deal is the lube application though. Nice build, hope it is all that you desire!

Although, be very sure to have the holes in the block nice and clean, so you don't push any residual oil up and out on to the gasket area (deck surface). The bolt holes are usually in great shape other than oil and coolant being in there.

Kdd should do a little better with the QC before they ship out heads that metal could ruin your whole build what a bummer
@LeftLaneDiesels2 жыл бұрын
Agreed, It’s unsettling when you lift your $5,000 heads up and can hear metal bang around inside of them.
@johnnycortez462 жыл бұрын
@Left Lane Diesels KDD is sooo backed up on orders, I bet it was something over looked because they were probably rushing to get it out. Yes QC should be better. But if something went down with your heads Jared would have absolutely ZERO problems getting them replaced quickly. Still in my opinion the best heads on the market. KDD has head orders backed up past 6 months right now. Why? Because everybody wants their products.
@LeftLaneDiesels2 жыл бұрын
@@johnnycortez46 best heads-they helped develop the solid roller set up for these engine. Products are next level! My experiences with Jared have been awesome! There’s room for improvements in the other aspects of their business/company. Customer service and quality control would be a good start. At the end of the day they offer the best product so I purchase them. If some of these products were made by other reputable companies, (aka river city diesel), I would likely take my business else where.

@johnnycortez462 жыл бұрын
@ak ryan I agree 100% about receiving a premium product. I just think they were rushed out without being properly inspected because the fact they have way too many orders. But dealing with Jared personally I know he'll get the problem resolved quickly if the product was damaged due to their negligence

the whole not telling you anything ahead of time on the cams is some bull like the shavings from the surface job. cant believe they didnt jet the heads after that. then do the coating. and you can run a solid roller lifter on a hyd. roller cam but to take advantage of the fact of going solid the spring pressures at seat and open should be much higher and that is normally done cause a solid set up is normally alot more aggressive ramp rate over a hyd. cam. makes me glad im keeping mine simple with a stage 2 and 120 manton springs and .140 thick push rods. what turbo and stick you plan on using ? s480 and spray or 476 ?
