Arrogance is something that I used to struggle with when i was younger as well. It wasn't till I became a full adult and was enveloped into the real world that i gained enough experience with others and different views to realize that I dont have all the answers. This plunged me into a deep existential crisis that iv only recently came out of. I did not come out of this crisis with really any new answers then I did before, but a better understanding that I dont and never can have all the answers. The only thing I can really do is learn the best way to live for myself and try to help others do the same. Keep up the great work! Your content is truly a pleasure! 😊

For Eastern philosophy, if you want a nice beginner friendly crashcourse, I would suggest Alan Watts be the man you read first. My favorite book by him is "the wisdom of insecurity." I think that might be a good place for you to start as well. But do check out his entire bibliography. His lectures too! I listen to them every night before going to sleep

Congrat on the 100K! Your Nietzsche and Marquis de Sade videos were AMAZING!!! I do have a book recommendation, but it's a bit unorthodox. You should try Reverend Insanity by Gu Zhen Ren (not a self promotion, or at least not trying to. I'm not Gu Zhen Ren, although my channel is about his book). It's a Chinese webnovel that had been banned in China due to allegation of anti-social content (part of a huge internet content censorship in China). The story take on the classic Daoist pursuit of immortality but with a worldbuilt heavily influenced by Greek tragedies and Western philosophical questions. The world of RI is very nihilistic, where Fate Gu control every facets of reality and therefore, while free will exists, it can never be truly free. The ways of Heaven is to destroy surplus and fill up scarcity, it doesn't care about the feelings of people. Yet Fate is absolute. The question of "what is the meaning of life?" come up many times throughout the book with vastly different characters reaching their own different answers When nothing you can or want to do ever matter. How to find meaning in such a universe, to bow down or to rebel? The main character Fang Yuan, in my opinion, is very similar to Nietzsche's Superman. He is unencumbered by any form of morality, both personal and societal. He is ruthless and, one can say, very cruel, and yet he is not driven by any resentment, humiliation or hatred. And then you have the Legends of Ren Zu, a series of folklore fairytales told by the inhabitants of the Gu World about the first human and his 10 children. The stories carry lots of philosophical messages on what is the meaning to be human, to be alive and self-aware in a completely deterministic and uncaring universe. Life itself does not have any meaning, it is your job to create one for yourself. The best type of East meet West philosophy, in my opinion.

Pragmatist story of maths: Maths are kind of like one of the many “languages” that the universe itself speaks. It works because it’s a pattern-recognition system using positive, negative, and neutral values, and something is only added to the “maths language” once it successfully predicts a pattern. So, it is sort-of a “brute fact of the world that maths works,” but that’s because we as humans only add something to the “maths language” once it predicts correctly. Anything that does not predict correctly is not mathematical in nature, so that excludes anything that “doesn’t work” by its definition. Please correct me if I misunderstood the premise of your question around why maths works.

Loneliness has been hitting me pretty hard recently even though I have a friend to confide in, I found myself thinking more and more that if I just don't tell them anything's wrong then I won't make them feel bad for any reason. It turns out that trying to hide how you feel even in the most innocent ways ends up eating you alive and can temporarily turn you into someone you're not until you let all of it out.

One of my friends believes that she is not real , so life has no meaning. I don't know how to argue with someone who dismisses all my points by saying "You believe in this reality, but i don't" So, she doesn't get up from her bed and do anything. Is there any way i could help?

@@dante1875possibly, but I think that may stem from disassociation. I would recommend discussing with her the things she experiences that are tangible and that do impact others. Despite the thought that maybe this is all meaningless and we will all return to nothing. This reality is still a reality and matter because we are all here experiencing it. I cannot go into as much depth here in the time I have but I hope this makes sense. This is the approach I’d take

Maybe ask her why she thinks that, its not about what you believe or what you assume she would, but actually understanding the root cause for her disposition. Plus being motivated is an actual chore, you cant expect motivation to always be around. Id tell you that knowledge can bring a lot of light into your world to best decipher what your feeling, thinking, about everything, but at the same time it can just bring more nihilism as you realize how insignificant everything ultimately is. And feeling lost and without purpose is just the human condition. It however doesnt help to succumb to negative self talk and just become a statistic at the end of the day, cough suicide cough. Moods change, we have our good days and we have our bad days. Best you can do for her, is talk, understand her feelings, everything else will follow.

hey man... I dont like pointless struggles so I'll throw a pebble your way and let it ripple until you can distance yourself from the olds and become one of your own. So languages kind of evolve semi-randomly. The reason I bring this up is that you speak about several topics that all revolve around this one. Getting out of our own heads require to grasp that language is a tool (an extremely flawed one). If you want to perceive the world objectively, this is probably the best means to do so [learn to not fall in the mold]. You're born an empty shell... you learn to have feelings of the world we live in... then express those feelings (not communicate) through emotions... then, if you've learned those properly, you learn to express them in words And regulate them yourself (for they're your response to what you understand from the world... therefore are yours and yours alone.. women have a skewed perspective of the world because their only wish is for relationships.. its nearly all they think about so they look for the best partner and always believe the grass is greener everywhere else for they never learn to grow beyond their impressions as everyone attempts to impress them............... language fails them because, as a society, we've let them think that emotions are valid. They are... but you need to regulate them And express yourself Better.. learn your own wishes etc). Once you've learned how to master yourself (have solutions for most of your emotions) then it's time to align your thought processes through reality (and only reality... that way you can grow past its confines if necessary... I dont think it is, but, a lot of our ancestors have... B of years ago). Without predictive models of reality (there are 3 basal assumptions which seem to create any set of beliefs.. thus demonstrating that this one is the right one) I do think that the first few notions that we need to learn should be taught by our parents (more often than not: Are), but those can range from stupidity to adequate. Defining the categories that exist would be smart, but.. create clear notions and improve them. They will end up boiling down to more rudimentary ones and you might grasp it. Take care

German philosophy. They all went into loonie bins or killed themselves. The ancients are really all you need in my opinion, maybe it is my blue collar background that brought me to that opinion. I did like Dostoyevsky when i was a kid but he is an author not a philosopher. Crime and punishment is just a great book.

So, I have a question which is unlikely to be answered: From a philosophical perspective, I think it wouldn't be too controversial to say that you can't definitively define an objectively correct way of life, because even something as simple as context can impact how you interact with reality, let alone all the other variables. One of the things that really exploded in the 20th century was strongly partisan ideas on political lines (an example being the tri-fector struggle between capitalists, communists and fascist, to oversimplify that mess), which to this day remains quite prominent. While I'm not naive enough to think this can be removed (if it even should, as distasteful as that might be), do you feel that there is a distinct lack, certainly in English speaking countries (I cannot speak to others) of political or even philosophical nuance at the public level? A memory of Stephen Fry, a self-confessed "lefty" arguing against PC influence alongside a conservative right-wing proponent comes to mind. This was so interesting to watch, because you could see Sir Fry drew his position from a perspective he had thought through (whether you agreed or disagreed) and was happy to articulate why, alongside what was ostensibly a political opposite. His integrity came from backing an idea based on his position, not pitching a flag in a camp and taking the expected position for loyalty or group-thought reasons. I ask because I have found politics in democratic countries to be a growing importance in our lives (as we can engage, to some degree, on decision making), but my observation is that the nuance and knowledge of a position, ideology or philosophy is so simplified and poorly understood by the average person that it's hard to make any case for change, without being immediately lumped into a partisan camp. It is difficult, for example, to vote for a party along ideological lines, as opposed to single or a small few select topics, understanding that broadly they will represent your thoughts, and may get some things wrong, because the public discourse has broken into single topics and partisan sides. Why do you assume the kindest thing is the best? Even in your example you contradict yourself. Your parents did something unkind, but it was the kindest in the long run? That does not make sense, it may have been bettering the long run but better does not mean kind. This I think is a fundamental error made by most modern thinkers, the assumption that kindness is a value. It isn't, more often than not the choices/actions that are best for a person or society more broadly are unkind. Whether that means locking up an addict so he cleans up, or passing vagrancy laws being a little mean often improves lives.
