Music on an external speaker is better than earbuds on my local bike trail IMHO. Its often crowded with kids and people taking up the entire path and the music saves my voice having to constantly call out that im over taking them. It also gives the the benefit for allowing me to still hear the sounds around me as people overtake me.

I went back to Germany this summer. The only bike available for me was my mother's granny bike with step-thru frame and 7-speed hub shifting. It had an adjustable stem. It was somewhat aero with the seat all the way up and the stem down. It ended up much faster than I thought.

I raced my good old 26" bike on a gravel course. It was partly muddy, and I was able to ride the whole course with semi-slick tires. Gravel bikes are the reincarnation of 26" bikes. And they are 5-10x more expensive. :D

On a serious note, how about a race on: “the best bike $1100 buys you”. Ideally 2 or more. Maybe comparing a used higher end bike to a new cheaper one. Or a $800 with $300 of key upgrades (tires?) vs a stock $1100 bike.
