Music on an external speaker is better than earbuds on my local bike trail IMHO. Its often crowded with kids and people taking up the entire path and the music saves my voice having to constantly call out that im over taking them. It also gives the the benefit for allowing me to still hear the sounds around me as people overtake me.

I raced my good old 26" bike on a gravel course. It was partly muddy, and I was able to ride the whole course with semi-slick tires. Gravel bikes are the reincarnation of 26" bikes. And they are 5-10x more expensive. :D
