Fun place isn't it. My buddy and I used to island hop in the hobie kayaks. We had sails we had pedal power, these kayaks were loaded and awesome!!!! I highly recommend them for everyone/ anyone. They're a bit expensive but honestly... they were worth every penny. Our starting point was big pine key that's where my bud used to live. One day my bud found out he was sick. So his wish was to- paddle, pedal, and persist until we hit the goal. The goal was Big Pine Key to Sanibel/Captiva then back. We called a few friends and told them our route. And back. As we pedalpaddled we noticed every 20 miles give or take our pedalpaddle parade grew larger and larger. Soon people thought we were famous. Lmao.. what we were, dirty, filthy, stinky unshaven If you are interested Hobie pro angler 14' with outriggers, sail , I left the peddles in to act as a keel. Be careful We did it several times. Those kayaks were stable enough to stand and fly fish. Fun times my guy. The Smokey Burger tour rides on. Isle Mirada is awesome.

Subscribed! So I’m in Key West and have this crazy dream to design my own catamaran. We tried lashing together two canoes on the Mississippi River last summer. We made a 3 mile crossing downwind with waves building behind us and... you probably already know well why cats have closed hulls. Got a little sporty. Now I’m thinking sit on top kayaks

It's a little difficult to tell from the video, but at 4:23 you may have spotted a Great White Heron (AKA the white plumage morph of the Great Blue Heron)! This variety of the Great Blue Heron is almost exclusively found in the South Florida region. You may have been in the Great White Heron National Wildlife Refuge when you saw it. Very cool bird that few people get to see, much less recognize for how rare it is!
@davdpl14782 жыл бұрын

@RobertIvers2 жыл бұрын
In the H16, it handles big waves fairly well. But it has two nasty habits. First it can pitch pole easily with one hull or both. Rake the mast back a bit will help. Second, it bottoms out on high waves usually when it falls off into a trough... sometimes also when it gets hulls on both sides of a wave. Secure gear well and be ready for a wet ride. When spray lines come off leech of the main, you're movin, man. Movin!

You can angle the bottom of the rudder towards the front of the boat if you redrill the holes in the rudder. That will take away some of the weather helm. Old racing trick. The mast shrouds are also placed in the bottom hole of the chain plates on the side. Helps going upwind alot and hardly hurts going down wind. And you desperately need a "jib" of some sort. 👍

Great episodes. I wish I could post a photo of a rig I created to camp the really shallow Trinity river Delta in Texas. I lashed a 17 ft Dagger Passage canoe onto a Hobie 14 to make a trimaran. The canoe capacity was close to 1000 lbs so there was a ton of space and bouancy for two adults one child and all our gear for a weekend. It's a great way to access places most other craft cannot. I loved seeing these episodes, having done something similar, myself. Sam, Zoe seems super cool. Also, not a lot of women would do such things. You scored, man.
