I really enjoy your assessment of sapphic content. While watching the split screen of “Carol” and “Disobedience,” I flashed the on how much more natural was Rachel Weiz’s sexual performance than than was Cate Blanchett’s. Surprised you didn’t mention Charlize Theron in this video essay. She’s a keeper and even won an Oscar playing a lesbian.

I never really understood the Cate Blanchett appeal (how un-australian of me). But I remember watching the Mummy / Mummy Returns on repeat when I was younger, completely taken by Evelyn. I think growing up and having a chance to see her play gay speaks to that lesbian youngling part of my life. Also, there is something about her accent and her voice that just 😍 She is intelligent, elegant, and, as you mentioned, strong without losing her femininity. There is a depth to her also - you know she would be well read, cultured - the sort you could lay beside all night and get lost in conversation with. Cate Blanchett is a little too masculine for me (and if I'm honest, I'd probably want to do the railing with Rachel. Maybe that's why she is so popular, she appeals to all haha).

She's cooooooooold. I feel like she's more predetorial, Hollywoodish, knowing young actresses vy to be in her presence and kind of taking advantage of it. Where with Rachel, she feels more organic, she truly feels like She cares for telling womens story for women, for her daughter, for the world to change for the better, while with Cate it always feels like its tactics, get a bigger role, get more accolades, be attractive to women, because men dont look at anything past 40 years old actresses. there's something more rebellious yet nourishing about Rachel, more real. she has warmth and compassion, while cate feels like its all about control.

CB and RW - They are beautiful. There is something about their eyes and the way they speak that draws your attention and attraction....on and off screen. They are bold not because of their powerful presence within the industry, but because their nature is on display and they do so without reserve. They present what we all want, deeply felt love that rocks your soul. Carol is one example of falling for someone you are so attracted to because they can seduce with ease and boldness that excites and arouses you... even if it seems is a bit manipulative. Therese is overcome by this but welcomes it and is emboldened by it. She feel things that she only imagined she could or never imagined, until it happened. What a great story. Ronit and Esti, on the other hand, know that passion. Ronit has left their world behind but Esti never stopped loving her. It is not that they are lesbians , though they might be, it is that they have genuinely found themselves in each other, and while there, have tasted a remarkably powerful love. It is chemistry. The sadness of these two films is that there is such struggle to just be. That is why we love these stories. While half of the LGBT world has bolted out, there is still the other half that remain at the door. These characters and the women who play them make you believe that anything is possible, even through the worst of struggles. So until you liberate yourself, you live vicariously through their liberation. They are beautiful.

I believe that cate and Rachel are both older and are seen as prizes by patriarchy. Because they are also adored by men, even if we don't mean to, we hold them in higher prestige. This means that when they allude to queerness (movies; off camera), it feels like a prize won and we chase more of it.
@JeNn0mic0n Жыл бұрын
I think what makes it hotter for straight actresses/actors to play gay vs actual gay performers is because of the unknown variable of mystery. Are they or aren’t they? With a lesbian or gay actor, it’s like “Duh they’re gay” whereas a straight performer playing a gay character has this aura of the mystique in whether or not they’re actually gay. The fact they don’t slap a label on themselves makes them special than those locked in a box.

It's about the face alone. The face, and nothing else. They both have a correct, proportional face which is both: discriminately feminine, but also not prominantly feminine, not too fine, doll-like etc..

This vid is on point and truth. I love Rachel and Cate. But why don't we have seriously talented Lesbians in these roles too by now. Alot of Hollywood has been exposed for serious problems and u can't ignore the possibly that this may have something to do with it. Who knows?? I really think "Below her mouth" movie, tribb✂️ scene is the best lesbian sex scene period. Erika linder killed it and is a lesbian. Rachel&Cate should be able to do these roles but we still need to have our legendary Lesbian actor in these roles as well for representation like other communities have today. Like Denzel, the Rock, Jlo, Angelina, Zendaya, Will smith. Where are ours, and in our sapphic movies?😢

Shouldn't a Lesbian icon, be an actual Lesbian?! Are lesbian actors given these same opportunities? No hate on Rachel
@tarotaddicts469519 күн бұрын
Can they act iconic? Do they make iconic moves like writing producing acting in wlw films? There are many who have the money and contacts yet think that being out is enough. These women are exceptional, as actresses as women in a male dominant industry, they push the envelope to make movies a reflection of a new future, I don't see any openly gay actress doing that. To be and icon, u need to do something brave, iconic, new, different, u need to exude power strength, something, I don't see that either with them, and I love them all and very proud they are out, but they don't have what these two have.
