I really like little scenes like this that still add a lot to the characters. In this case, it introduces the family bond and dynamic that Pongo and Perdita have with their puppies after they're born and before they're kidnapped and gets the audience further invested in them. One of the puppies declaring that "no dog's better than dad" when they're talking about Thunderbolt, Perdy getting onto Patch for his name calling, Lucky getting in front of the screen and being told to get down, the puppies cheering on for Thunderbolt, moments like those just add to the believability and likability of the characters. Also, the announcer's reaction to being turned off at 3:57 is a really funny little blink-and-you-miss-it moment.

This is one of my favourite animated movies aesthetically. I love this era of Disney animation where they left some frames with lines from the rough/pencil animation. The backgrounds are often really stark and geometric and the colours look almost watercolour and bleed outside of the lines.

Strangely enough, the scary close up scenes like at 2:14 was kind of a wink in the 1996 live action movie, when Roger made a take 2 villain on his video game project and teased Pongo that he will be running scared when he sees this. Also just like the Cruella close shot in the final take at the end of the movie when the puppies flee seeing her.

Despite numerous wide shots, not once during an entire scene are all 15 puppies seen at same time. In the very first shot, you can clearly see 13 of them. Not counting Penny who is between Pongo's front legs and thus cannot be seen from this angle. Also, the puppy on Pongo's head keeps appearing and disappearing between shots. It is on Pongo's head only in close ups but in wide shots it is not there.

there are 2 wide shots. in the first wide shot you see them from behind: 5 pups to the right of dad(a puppy with all black ears flanked by 2 puppies on each side), 1 behind dad, 1 up by the tv, 1 in front of mom, 2 behind mom and 3 on the chair. then it clips over to a front shot: you see 4 of the 5 puppies that were on dad's right (the 5th would be off screen farther to the dad's right), the puppy that was behind dad has now climbed onto his back, we now see a puppy sitting flush in front of dad that would have been out of sight from the previous angle, the puppy in front of the tv, the puppy in front of the mom is still there now with an additional puppy in front of mom that we couldn't see from the previous angle. we only see one puppy behind her until the camera pans across mom and lucky pops up from behind and then the camera pans over to the chair to show the 3 puppies on the chair. the camera then pans back to dad and while we were over looking at the chair the puppy that we saw climb from the floor to the dad's back is now finishing climbing from dad's back onto his head. every shot from then until their tv shows ends you see that puppy on dad's head. you see him about to fall off of dad's head at 2:23 and we dont see him again until 2:50. in between 2:23 and 2:50 the "camera" clips over to being just the tv show. at 2:50 we get the second wide shot when the "camera" clips back to being the behind view of the family and you see the puppy is now off of the dad's head and on the floor behind him. 5 puppies to the right, 1 behind dad, 1 in front of tv, 1 in front of dad, 2 in front of mom, 2 behind mom, 3 on couch = 15 puppies
