I had 74 og xbox games in my collection this morning, but after watching this video I went online and found 12 more gems! Luckily for my wallet, they were all under $20 ... most under $10, and all complete-in-box! Thanks for making these videos, Gary, which for me are part nostalgia trip and part adventurous shopping guide. I spring forth from the 6 seconds of each game that you provide, do some research on the ones that interest me (and some others I see along the way), make a few smart purchases, and happily prepare to play some 'new' games! I so appreciate your archival-style format: 101 games in 10 minutes is much more interesting to me than a lot of those retro game guides on YT, with guys rambling on for 15-20 minutes about 10 games I already know about. Happy gaming!

It may not look like it, but I actually put a lot of effort (30+ hours) into trying to make these videos comprehensive and valuable for people who are looking to learn about a system, or for collectors such as yourself. So when I read comments like this, it 100% makes it all worth while! Thank you for your kind words and letting me know at least one person out there appreciates - and takes notice of - my effort! Can I ask what 12 games you added to your collection after watching this?

@@GaryRetroGamer So I already had about 30 games on this video's xbox exclusive list, concentrated in my favorite old genres like racing, platform, rpgs, plus of course hall of famers like Halo & Ninja Gaiden and underappreciated classics like JSRF & the Otogi games. I've had many of these since back in the day, but have bought a few more in recent years, notably Gunvalkyrie and Murakumo which I've just had for a couple of years but love. This week I purchased the following nine games on your xbox exclusive list: - Brute Force - Enclave - Kung Fu Chaos - Mad Dash Racing - Midtown Madness 3 - NightCaster 1: Defeat the Darkness - Phantom Crash - Tork: Prehistoric Punk - Unreal Championship 2 Also found three more games that I decided to pick up while researching: - BloodRayne 1 (multi-plat) - BloodRayne 2 (multi-plat) - NightCaster 2 (another og xbox exclusive) I know that only a couple of the games shipping to me are '8 out of 10' type games, but I enjoy playing 7's and 6's too, especially games that are evocative of the time they came out. Enclave and NightCaster for instance are clearly not as good as other games in their genre, but they seem so '2002 Xbox' to me and I love that.
@GaryRetroGamer
@GaryRetroGamer 5 жыл бұрын
Great choices! Brute Force is pretty good, and Mad Dash Racing is fun. I actually quite liked Enclave (it's also available on the PC) but Phantom Crash has a sequel on the PS2 ("SLAI") - which is actually superior. Kung Fu Chaos was the first game by studio Ninja Theory (who recently released Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice). Unreal Championship is great - but I don't know if you'll get the best out of it since Xbox Live support is gone. And I totally agree that 7s and 6s are interesting. (If you've seen any of the "underrated/unknown" videos on this channel, you'll see that's where I tend to gravitate). I'm glad to see the XBox fans still represent! Thanks for sharing!

I’ve looked for Geometry Wars as a stand alone game and can’t find it anywhere online. Not even a picture of it. Is Geometry Wars it’s own disc with case, cover art and manual? Or is it a bonus game on another disc? I’ve read that Project Gotham 4 on the 360 has a version of it as a bonus game. Any clarity would be nice as I am trying to collect all 884 games. I also read several complete lists of Original Xbox games and none of them list it. So if you have it as it’s own game then I can’t even imagine what it’s worth. Likely more than Steel Battalion.

Yeah this video pretty much shows how many console exclusive games there were then on consoles. Nowadays 90% of games I play are available on other systems, so it's almost as of it doesn't matter which console you buy. Even so, modern consoles do have their differences, but perhaps not as many as back then.
@GaryRetroGamer
@GaryRetroGamer 4 жыл бұрын
I am personally kind of glad we've got to this point. I like the fact that "exclusivity" is rapidly becoming a dead concept. Why should you have to spend several hundred dollars on another piece of hardware just to play a handful of titles? Gaming is about the gameplay experience, not the hardware. If someone told you that you had to buy different TVs just to watch different programs, you'd think they were insane.

Indeed many of those were great games - but I think it's more of a statement of how stagnant current gen games have become. Since that Xbox/PS2/GameCube generation, we haven't really seen any major advances in gaming. Sure they look a little prettier now (or worse, if you're into that whole retro indie asthetic) - but game styles themselves hasn't evolved much since the early 2000s. The bulk of games released today are still the standard FPS, or open world 3rd person style which haven't changed much since those days.

Project Breakdown was such an underrated gem that was a bit ahead of its time, i enjoyed it so much and got immersed in the story and characters even as a half clueless 8 year old but i never beat it becauss of one dumb trick at the final stage now even to this day i dream of playing it once more, i think it didn't get much recognition because it was an exclusive otherwise we could have seen a sequel
@GaryRetroGamer
@GaryRetroGamer 5 жыл бұрын
YEAH! Breakdown was great! The first game that let you vomit from a first person perspective! The stuff they were doing - especially with the melee combat - was so far ahead of its time. I unfortunately, didn't get very far into it - because even though I was older than 8 years old - I still got stuck at some tricky bits and end up giving up. Totally needed a sequel. Hopefully we'll see a remaster soon. Maybe in VR (lol)!

I 100% had that very same idea: "Here's how it looked on the Xbox!" - the reason I didn't, however, is that I realized most PS2 clips available on KZbin have been upscaled/uprezzed/enhanced, which means they look pretty good; and when compared with my original 480p Xbox captures - make the Xbox look firmly inferior. A couple of games even hit 1080i (simply impossible on the PS2) on the Xbox - but again, the impact would be lost. Additionally, if I did a video like that, the PS2 fanboys would get all up in arms and defensive and then flood these comments with crap, which I don't want to deal with. So, a great idea - but not practical. (PS. Isn't that ending great? I may switch the thumbnail of the video to a scene from the ending if I need to get more views...)
