So I just ordered one on Amazon should arrive tomorrow. All you lock guys are very good at what you do. I find your videos very interesting. The thing is this is a nice looking lock for about 12 bucks. Most thieves don’t carry around a vice to steady the lock when they pick it. I’d like to see you do it at night when it’s dangling from a chain. You’d have to have a flashlight and if I see you the next thing you would hear is a 12 gauge getting pumped. That’s where the high security kicks in. The main problem with all these videos is that all the locks are picked whether they are 12 bucks or 100. You guys are good no doubt about it. So why is it so hard for you guys to give us a recommendation? I have a mindy lock on my locker at work. It gets a lot of complements. It’s worked for years and no one has broken in. So what lock would you use under $25.00? It’s not like we are locking up nuclear weapons. Bet I don’t get an answer.

Hi there...I'll take that bet. Great comment and I agree with all of it - hobbyist lockpickers make a big deal about how easy this or that lock is beat, but in reality we're not talking about super high security situations and Joe Lunchpail really only needs something that will keep the casual thief out of his stuff. I agree that the Mindy looks cool and different, but I wouldn't use one because it's cheaply and poorly made, (as are almost all Chinese manufactured locks unfortunately), it can't be rekeyed, and you will never be able to get more keys for it. If I was in the US and needed to lock something reasonably securely but cheaply, I'd buy something like an Abus 83/45 or one of the many American brand padlocks...because they're very well made, very well supported by local locksmiths, and can be rekeyed to match your front door, or another padlock, or whatever. Thanks again for your comment. Best wishes, Michael.

Michael Maynard hope you don’t think I was picking on you. Pardon the pun. I love watching the videos. You are very talented. You are the first to give a recommendation on a decent lock. It just seems you lock guys can open anything in about the same amount of time. Doesn’t make me feel like any padlocks are secure. If they don’t break the lock the hasp is probably even weaker. If they want to get in they will.

Just got one in the mail today...ordered 40 days ago, knew there was an easier way to pick this than my approach. New picker 4 months in , thanks for the tip. Stay safe.🇺🇸

Nice, I'll have to pick one up. By the by, I love your tendency to subtitle comments in, they usually make me smile.

Thanks for the feedback bro. An awful lot of locksport videos are pretty dry, I try and make mine a bit interesting and tbh the humour is quite often at my own ham-fisted expense...

Nice looking lock, even if it is easy to pick. I will look for one of those when I get some spare cash. I've never picked a smiley lock.

Normally I'd agree with the Mindy lock security by obscurity thing, but the smiley dimple lock is a really, really common profile in China and I see tonnes of them. :-) also, I use small y wrenches used for wafer locks to tension, makes things super easy

My thoughts...garbage like you have demonstrated Michael!😁I was also intrigued by the keyways but never bit the bullet to fork out for any. I think they have other unusual keyways but one common denominator of rubbish...basically mutton dressed up as lamb. Thanks for sharing! 👍🙃

Very nicely done exploring and picking this lock. I agree, it's insecure, has bad tolerances but looks nice. But tensioning is an issue. Have you tried picking it in the hand without the vice? Is this possible?
@MichaelMaynard7 жыл бұрын
Hi Potti - that's a great question but no, I didn't try it in the hand and I probably should have.

Potti314 exactly my point. Let’s see him do it at night holding a flashlight and his picks. And the lock is dangling from a chain. All to steal my garden tools!

Yeah all the Mindy locks are just for the looks. They look fancy but not secure at all. I have 8 different ones in my collection.

I use mindy locks for minimal security applications like tool sheds and and other low value locations like school lockers it keeps kids and nosy people out but I would not put it anywhere with any real risk
