(1691) Mindy Open in 3 Seconds!

Almost EVERYTHING went wrong in video 1691. I did manage to get the Mindy open in about 3 seconds, but only AFTER discovering the keys didn't work. Fortunately, I've had several of these Pagoda locks over the years and I had a pretty good defeat technique in my bag of tricks.

Statistically speaking every lock manufacturer will have this happen from time to time. Because it's somthing that can happen, somehow some way sooner or later it will happen. It's undoubtedly incredibly rare to the point of almost never being encountered, but statistics says it must happen from time to time.

The lock showed "ON" on the right side.. you kept trying to insert the key vertically.. maybe you could have inserted it horizontally? Especially if the warding near the front maybe could move a little? It doesn't look like you ever tried inserting a key horizontally, but it seems like it does go that way because of the markings on it - it looks like you should turn it 90 degrees clockwise to the "OFF" position.

@bmjames
@bmjames 2 жыл бұрын
Here's a guess: ball bearing mechanisms require tight tolerances to avoid jamming or being too loose, so the lock body needs to be machined with high precision tools. Springs forgive poorer tolerances by expanding or contracting as required, so cheaper tools and processes can be used.
