We had a demo on teapots in our studio recently and I asked about the glazing process. No complete answers were provided, so your video is very timely for me. The special tips you provide are so very helpful. Thanks for showing the results and thanks for takeing the time to make your videos.

I'm so glad you are showing what glazing effects one can get with oxidation firings, despite most of your videos showing reduction firings. I enjoy your descriptions which are so clear and concise and don't rely upon tossing out 'jargon'. Excellent workmanship with detailed moments of workmanship. Descriptions and communication are your best tools in your videos. I was spurred to work with sodium silicate and chattering on a very red stoneware clay to good results and I am looking forward my glaze results in a couple of months. My canvas will be red, while yours is white and the glaze colors and effects should be very interesting. Thank you for sharing your processes!

You always thank us for watching. I would like to than YOU for making these videos for us. I'm always learning something. I'm very happy to learn the trick about the water. I've made three teapots so far and on one of them I stopped the holes up with glaze.

You are a wonderful teacher. Thank you for all that you share. And a question: Do you have a tip for how to avoid having cracks around a handle where it is attached to the side of the pot? I'm having a lot of trouble with hairline cracks appearing, especially at the top part of the handle. I'm using slip and smoothing out with a pin tool or wood tool. Thanks!

what do you add to the wax? can you please write it to me? and explain why you add it?
@Beakz_10 жыл бұрын
Hi, he is using wax resist to keep the glaze from adhering to those areas, the areas where the lid meets the vessel cannot have glaze on it because they will stick while firing. He is most likely firing the lid on the vessel to keep the two from warping out of shape while firing as well.
@GideonIbemereJr10 жыл бұрын
he adds Alumina Hydrate so that the wax becomes powdery after glaze firing. Most times when you add regular wax resist the space you've created, (for the lid to fit into the pot) becomes smaller/tighter and lifting the lid off is very difficult. So adding alumina hydrate makes the detaching much easier
