I have followed HPA’s work since probably 2015 or earlier and I still say it is the best place to get real information on how all of this stuff works, I always recommend them to anybody I talk to about performance and I always try to catch any of their media. Thank you to Andre and his team 🙏

The bit about carbon deposition on the piston was interesting. It almost seems like he was speaking to it being a physical barrier to the cylinder environment and not just a gauge/indicator of proper combustion.
@nowayjose596 Жыл бұрын
It's a little frustrating that, despite being directly asked about it twice, he failed to answer what sort of gains have been actually documented from dimpling of the intake ports (if any). We get it - the homogeneity of the air/fuel mixture is of paramount importance and this is where dimpling is likely to show improvement vs increased CFM, but his response did nothing to help settle the debate on whether or not it actually proves to be effective in practice on the dyno/racetrack.

Cos there is none, if there was, every single N/A V8 would have it Multiple top level head porters have dis proved it Head games and 4 piston don’t do it
@BrewedMotorsports Жыл бұрын
He explained in detail the benefits are focused on consistent fueling through avoiding pooling fuel in the port/on the port walls.
@bigcncguy Жыл бұрын
@@BrewedMotorsports cool, show me a dyno graph of it working, saying something works means FUCK ALL. He always builds relatively low power stuff Once your throwing a decent amount of fuel and especially methanol at an engine, you can golf ball port the intake all you like, your getting a liquid in there.
@gfarnden56 Жыл бұрын
@bigcncguy I've also never seen anyone who says it works prove it. My little 2 .2l makes 860whp, the 2500cc injectors are at 75% duty, you are going to have liquid going into the cylinder. .. lots of it.
@BrewedMotorsports Жыл бұрын
@@bigcncguyre listen to him explain, it’s not about power it’s about fuel efficiency/not letting any fuel/energy get wasted. It relates to running a target lambda leaner than 1 even under full load. When endurance racing good power with fuel conservation is the name of the game.

I love listening the podcast when im commuting, or in the shed. This one was so good and I was so excited when I seen it was 2+hours and what made it even better was that it was someone that has been at the forefront of automotive design. I absolutely love the K engine so i listened very hard and took notes with this one. I do wish the question was asked when the stroke and rod:length ratio was brought up why he chose to stroke the k20 and not destroke the k24? Thank you for another great episode. Keep up the great work

I've noticed the engines that are considered great are usually the engines that are mass produced and have a lot of aftermarket support. Never been a fan of timing belts, not many people are even aware of morse chains. Most factory chains are roller link or solid pin silent chain, morse is so much better. Thanks for the podcast, enjoyed it.
@YasharMota Жыл бұрын
Hilux Surf's 5VZ-FE has almost no aftermarket support for the engine. Also, has a timing belt. Granted, it is in the 'Great argument' solely because of reliability. Not the fastest, and runs pig rich, but can you imagine driving a 3,000 pound truck at 85mph, 5500 rpm, for 25 straight years (winters and summers)? I can, because I've done it and currently doing it right now. Never needed so much as a head gasket or fuel pump. That's pretty insane.

I think its the best CHEAP 4 cylinder. VW/Mercedes make some great 4 pots which can take 500hp stock but they are still too expensive.

Not a cheap engine during production. Which 2001-2003 VW/Mercedes 4 pots were better?
@bigkaswrx8115 Жыл бұрын
@@YasharMota sorry but the K20 is CHEAP. 4G63/EJ20/SR20/M139 etc.. are more expensive and harder to find. Here in the UK you can buy a good condition civic type r for £3-4k , a 4G63 just the engine is worth more than a whole civic type r 🤷♂️😂 there was no date limit in the question so lets not go back in time and limit ourselves to 2001-2003

@@bigkaswrx8115As an owner of a 600 hp Benz 4 pot and 800hp Benz inline 6.The k20 quality is not cheap plus you get race car technology like mechanical lifters and the mains caps is already a bedplate.Most stock head flow 280cfm stock too that’s more than a lot of ported head from different manufacturers.

I believe the greatest 4 banger will have to be from Porsche's 919 hybrid V4, currently the fastest engine around the green hell and of course with overall le man victories: 2015, 2016, and , 2017.

This guy really just picked a current era prototype engine that's assisted by electrical energy and crowned it as GOAT. Yes, there were kids in school who ate crayons and gained no insight from the tortoise and the hare. Now they are adults, and work in the automotive mechanic industry, or for their fathers.
