It played a large part of my musical life Jamie. I grew up with it in the 50s and 60s. Cheers.

We always had to go down to the EX and see Ronnie Hawkins. My brother was a huge fan but we all liked Ronnie.
@BobbyGass55 ай бұрын
Yeah Ronnie was a pistol, loud and gregarious. He had a million stories. The Hawk was the one that brought R&R to Canada and put it in our bars and nightclubs...

My six transistor radio was tuned to CHUM 1050 constantly..I had a Chum Bug Card!!! Jungle Jay, Bob McADorey, Brian Skinner and my favourite Chum DJ Dave Johnson…What memories..thanks Bobby❤👍glen

LOL.. Yeah us Toronto guys remember this radio station big time Glen. It was a part of our lives. I visited it a couple of times looking to score a record or two. Sometimes they'd have a couple of doubles and they'd give them away. You had to ask though.

@@BobbyGass5 it was always the first stop inside the Princess Gates during the Exhibition. Check to see if your Chum Bug Card number was on the list..I used to stand there and watch the DJ’s..

@@GlenKellawayfromthebasement LOL... My old man corrected me on this point. We all call it the Princess Gates but in actuality it's called the Prince's Gate. Prince's not Princesses, Pop was a stickler about that. I got a picture of my Dad holding me and he's standing outside the Prince's Gate in 1949. I was only 5 months old. You had a Chum Bug card? You still got it Glen? Show it some time if you do. I've got maybe a half dozen chum charts from the 60s is all I have for remembrances... Cheers.

Robert is also a big fan of CHUM. I have to admit. I miss the old vibes from some of the terrestrial radio stations here in Boston. They are all gone except for the classic rock stations. Dick Clark really got around. He was known throughout the world. The fifties and sixties music scene was huge. But to me the seventies was thee decade. Thanks to the concert announcements on WBCN I was able to run up and grab tickets at the local Sears department store. After getting Floyd tickets in 1977 the line was around the whole floor. I miss those days. Do you miss the classic terrestrial radio days Bobby? Rob/Boston
@BobbyGass52 жыл бұрын
Yes I miss the vibe from the old R&R radio stations Rob.. A transistor radio used to attract a crowd back in them days. It was something you could share just by listening. Until the radio stations went to 50,000 watts it was tough getting decent reception outside of not many miles from the transmitter. When on a long drive you'd eventually lose the station you were listening to on the car radio and have to hunt the dial for a station within range that played R&R. That was always kinda fun. Smile.

I grew up with Chum from about 1958. I'm 73 years old so CHUM and Dave Mickey at CKEY were what us teenagers listened to back then. Great memories. I bet if you played the song for me I'd know it.

Ok. The lyrics start out as “ Oh babe I know that song” and chorus is “ Oh baby pleeeeese I love you yeah” followed by a piano/drum bit. The singer sounds like Tom Jones but it’s not him.
