What I hate about the Anita sarkeesian thing is this; Victorian London wasn't rainbows and gender equality. This is what they based the setting off of. It's more realistic. The world, and by extension, fictional worlds don't/shouldn't fold to people's delicate sensibilities. Life is grim and unfair. That's what made dishonored feel more real despite the fictional setting. I'm all for equality, but the era this was based on was never equal.

Wamp-Wamp the women in that era especially those of lower class had little to no power and when married lost many rights and weren't allowed to wear pants. Most women who had any power either married into it or inherited it and could almost never gain it which is why beauty was such a valuable thing to women in that era as it allowed them to marry rich men and live comfortably.

It'd be great if the story of Dishonored 3 will be about the said cult that successfully made The Outsider. I don't think a cult that successfully made a God would just go away and since The Outsider is now turned back to a mortal, the problem can be how they are out there trying to make a new one.

@@toasterofdoom9629 That could be possible but have we ever seen the Outsider do something outright? Like as much as he is an omnipotent being, he is a VERY passive one. He can only bestow gifts and if those people going to do his bidding or not is still up to the people. And even then, he personally likes how things just play out, just forever watching lol. Plus, why would these cult create a god only for it to turn its back on them. Idk, just for me, for a cult or group of people to do that, they must be very organized and people who know what they are doing, you know. And maybe now that the Outsider is a mortal, they have no "control" who gets the gift or not (or even they are possible to get anymore) since the void is not just a void again, no god to tether to. So yeah, I just think that's a good reason for them to come out of the shadows again, if they're still around, it could be very possible they just died out since they were a group of people from a era long ago. Gameplay wise, dishonored 2 is better than the first game in every single way. It was an absolute joy to play, the world felt alive and fun to inhabit, and the npc's all acted believable. The story on the other hand did feel lackluster and weak. I never cared for Delilah, even in Daud's DLC story, so continuing her arc wasn't something I was interested in. Her entourage is equally as disappointing, especially the Alchemist woman who is only a relevant enemy because she's taking a potion that causes a violent, mind altering effect and turns her into a powerful, murderous, psychopath? That is far to uninspired a motivation.
@garchompbows87517 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I didn't dislike as much as you seem to have but I feel like the name "Dishonored" itself plus the non-existant setup for a sequal in the first game limited them somewhat story-wise. As there is so much lore around the games, and with all the mythisism, I feel like there are better stories to tell then simply reclaiming the throne yet again. With no offence to women I also want to state that women in general make weak antagonists. Or Delilah was just unintresting in general. The lack of direct interaction with her and also lackluster explanation of what her motives was and why they were made her feel evil for the sake of evil.
@pseudonym71807 жыл бұрын
The title of the game shouldn't force the developers to craft a story similar to the first game, just because they share the same name. Doing the same, tired old thing over again isn't something people are interested in. What makes Dishonored, "Dishonored", isn't a revenge story about a person who has been framed for a crime they didn't commit, attempting to right the wrongs done to them and reclaim what is rightfully theirs, It's about the beautiful, yet dark and eerie wold that you get to explore. It's about the being known as the outsider, gifting the powers of the Void to those that he deems worthy enough to use them. It's about the freedom of choice you get in every scenario you come across and shaping your own story, becoming the savoir or destroyer of the Isles. It's about showing the player that there is good in even the most vile human beings, and vice versa, forcing you to contemplate long and hard about how to handle removing them. The story can be whatever you want it to be, so long as the playable character has been walked all over and treated worse than dirt, but is capable of changing the world for better or worse.

Fun fact: You know how you said Luke Skywalker was Harvey Smith's Childhood idle? Well in the first Dishonored game, in Return to the Tower mission(Assassinate Lord Regent) if you kill the propaganda officer before the next mission, if you go behind the hound pits pub before talking Havelock, and wait for a little. You can hear that the original propaganda officer was replaced by a female one, and she is in fact voiced by: Carrie Fisher.

Such a beautiful game, the graphics are very nice and the story fits into my interest. I’ll say that Corvo has always been my favorite since the beginning, but trying all the assassins in the game were unique in their own way which makes this game fun😬😬

Big Dishonored fan here. All of these factoids were very entertaining. Even with all of my games & collectibles--my fav. being the cards--I didn't know half of these. But for the uninitiated, a more than one-second spoiler warning would've been prudent. All the same, great job!

Nobody should listen to Anita Sarkisian. Her argument about dishonored is non sense. It's like saying in Victorian England women were treated wrongly and therefore you can't make a movie or book about that. Just because you make a story about something doesn't mean you condone that behavior.. it means you are crafting a world that is exploring that. Nobody in dishonored is shown in a good light for abusing women in any way .

Just for those who are curious; the 13-month 28-day calendar is something that's been proposed a few times throughout history. Having this setup gives a year 364 days while our own world has 365.24 (ish) days in a year. To compensate for the missing day it was proposed to have a "new year's day" which would be the 365th day of the year, serving as a global holiday. So the game really has the same year we do. Just different months.

I actually didn't care for the fact that the world was bigger and brighter. I liked that gritty dark feel. It didn't have the same strong feel as the first and ending felt flat. I did enjoy it but feel like they could have put more thought into it. Edit: the sisters of the oracular order weren't much of a threat and didn't seem thought out.

As if people complained about the treatment of women in Dishonored, it’s supposed to be set in Victorian times... pretty sure women’s rights weren’t all too big back then.
@ceilingfanenthusiast60417 жыл бұрын
The woman were portrayed like that in dishonwred 1 because of the time period it was based off. Why does historical accuracy trigger feminists? Also I wish the protaganists talked less. MoseyMoseley why does it really matter? It's just a game, why not focus on actual problems?
@jrobins56226 жыл бұрын
MoseyMoseley Just because its not real doesn't mean it can't deal with real subjects. Dishonored dealt with plauges, murder, torture, the divide between the rich and the poor, and out of control religion. Why should should women just be free from that?
@jrobins56226 жыл бұрын
MoseyMoseley I still disagree. Most of the subjects I mention were "background decoration". It doesn't affect the story, it just a part of the world. I don't know how you wanted prostitutes to be treated, but I thought it was a fine way to show it. It was with consistent with the rest of the game. And the guards stoic personalities reflected Dunwall as a place. It's cruel and controlling. But you are entitled to ur opinoin I guess.

There may or may not be a small reference to Dishonored's "tallboy" enemy in Wolfenstein II (Er, the one that just came out like 3 days ago; both published by Bethesda, so it's vaguely possible?) If you choose the Battle Walker later on after [spoiler removed] and do a small side-quest to help one of the people on Eva's Hammer (the woman trying to get her friend to take his meds) he says something like "Back off, Tall Boy!" if he sees you w/ the Battle Walker on (because they're essentially stilts that put BJ up about as high as a guard armed w/ the tallboy suit in Dishonored)
