We bought a small 8 acre homestead in 2021 and I can totally relate to feeling like we bit off more than we can chew sometimes. We're here because this is where God wants us right now and there were days I questioned myself. I'll be 60 next week but my heart is still in my 20s 😂. There is still so much to do 2 years later but it's keeping me fit and busy. I love your farm and that event barn is amazing! 🥰🙏👩‍🌾

Absolutely 💯 about listening to our Lord. So hard to actually stop. Listen. But it always works out when you do. Good reminder this morning, thank you!

I think a cut flower garden would be a good addition to your garden for weddings. Brides can either cut a few flowers to their bouquests or they can make a full loose bouquet from just your flowers, or decorate the venue with some.

Oh Melissa! I see you living parts of my dream. All I can see is an event barn right now and some of the land. I don’t even know what events, but it exists in my mind. I'm so happy for you that things have fallen into place for you as you trusted and pushed through the obscure and overwhelming parts. Wishing you all the best, and praying that your health news is benign and manageable and doesn't interfere with your greater goals. ❤

My neighbor(in her 70's) when we lived on Whidbey Island, grew up in Grey's Harbor, her dad always grew dahlias and would dig them up every year. She doesn't care to do that so when she trims her ferns back in the fall she layers them DEEP on top of her dahlia bed along with some other natural vegetation to help insulate them over the winter. They seem to do fine. She brings her begonias in her shed every first week of October. Also some fun stuff to add as time goes on is some whiskey/wine barrels to hold bouquets/decor or even make side/standing tables at. Also a pretty arch/arbor with the pretty foresty hills in the background.

Thank u for the reminder that we need to listen for God's voice and guidance and to trust in his will - my hubby and I are in the finishing stages of our very first homestead and like you, we felt like we bit off more than we can chew. Instead of feeling discouraged by all the issues that's been coming up with building, I'll be still, listen and trust 🙏❤ Your Dahlias are gorgeous 😍 I wonder if I can grow them in Jamaica 🇯🇲 🤔

A nice outdoor touch to your building would be and inoperable farm tractor with a fresh coat of paint on it that people can sit on and take pictures.

I live in Edmonds, WA. FYI My dahlias are planted at the top of a slope, so they have plenty of drainage. Which is the key! I do not have to dig them up every year.

The farm looks wonderful. I like the metal wood mix - classy, farm but yet rustic. The garden's are very nice. I too like my dahlia's. Beth certainly has a few of them and some wonderful colors. Good job Melissa.

@MelissaKNorris It's too bad that it's not an option, but I understand why it isn't. I would be interested in a webinar or pre-recorded video lecture as traveling to Idaho, as much as I would enjoy it, isn't really an option for me at this time.
