Osman Pasha was a strategic mastermind and defended the city of Plevna and the borderline (northern line of today's Bulgaria) for a long time during Russian offensive although Russian forces were too strong. and very wrong! those soldiers had Romanian uniforms, but the officer is Russian (according to his uniform!) or the Romanians did not fight under the direct command of a Russian officer; moreover, there were no battles in those flower fields between the Romanians and the Turks, especially in Plevna, all the battles were on the Grivitsa redoubts and the first redoubt was conquered by the Romanians who then repelled the attacks of the Turks. The main casualties caused by the Turks were due to firearms, especially the repeating carbines - which is not presented here at all, and in the one-on-one confrontations in the trenches, the Turks took a beating from the Romanians. So the video is a big nonsense, far from the truth

The Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878 had its origins in a spread of nationalism in the Balkan Peninsula and Russia's desire to recoup territorial losses suffered in the Crimean War by regaining supremacy in the Black Sea and encouraging political movements for the liberation of the peoples of Balkans under Ottoman rule. As a result of the war, the principalities of Romania, Serbia, and Montenegro, each long de facto sovereign states, formally proclaimed their independence from the Ottoman Empire. After nearly five centuries of Ottoman rule (1396-1878), the Bulgarian state was re-established as the Principality of Bulgaria, between the Danube and the Balkan Mountains (except for Northern Dobrogea given to Romania) and with the region of Sofia, which became the new capital. The 1878 Congress of Berlin also allowed Austria-Hungary to occupy Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United Kingdom to receive Cyprus, while the Russian Empire annexed southern Bessarabia and the region of the city of Kars.Osman Pasha organized the defense and repulsed two Russian assaults causing many losses to the Russian troops. At this point, both sides were roughly equal in terms of troop numbers, and the Russian army was demoralized by the two setbacks.[38] Gazi Osman Pasha, the commander of the Ottoman forces besieged in the Plevna fortifications Russia had no more troops to send in a new assault on Plevna, so the Tsar's armies besieged the fortress and asked Romania to send reinforcements.[39] In a short time, the mobilized Romanian army crossed the Danube at Zimnicea, advanced on the corridor vacated by the Russians and joined the siege. On August 16, at Gorni-Studen, the western group of armies besieging Plevna came under the command of Prince Carol I of Romania, seconded by the Russian general Pavel Dmitrievich Zotov and the Romanian general Alexandru Cernat. The Russians and Romanians fought hard to capture the redoubts around Plevna.[40][41] The Romanians managed to capture the Grivița redoubt and keep control over it until the end of the siege. The Siege of Plevna (July-December 1877) was successful only after the Romanian-Russian forces cut off the supply routes of the fortified Turks. Lacking supplies, Osman Pasha made an attempt to break the siege in the direction of Opanez. On the night of December 9, the Turks came out in , the Turks quietly came out, built bridges over the Vit River and crossed it, attacking on a front of 3.2 km and passing the first line of Russian trenches. Bayonet fighting ensued, neither side succeeding in gaining any advantage. Taking advantage of their numerical advantage, the Russians finally pushed the Turks back across the Vit. Osman Pasha was wounded in the leg by a stray bullet, which killed his horse, and rumors spread that he had died. The Turks were eventually driven back into the citadel, losing 5,000 men and inflicting 2,000 Russian casualties. The next day, Osman surrendered, leaving the garrison and his sword to the Romanian colonel Mihail Cristodulo Cerchez. He was treated honorably, but many of his soldiers died as prisoners marching through the snow. The most seriously wounded remained behind in the field hospitals, but many were killed by the Bulgarians. Participating forces Russia's main ally in this war was Romania (which mobilized an army of 60,000 men)[citation needed]. In addition, the Russian army was joined by over 12,000 local Bulgarian volunteers (Opălcenia) and a regiment from Finland, which, after the war, received the title of the Old Guard Battalion, a title it still retains.
