Did this on an "unknown" rebuilt engine years ago. 4 weekends of kicking and popping.Turns out the pistons were fitted backwards and the cam timing was off. Redid the engine and set the timing and it started first kick. Was young then, didnt know much.It'll be in the timing.

Reminds me of an old Clinton lawnmower with a rope cord starter we had when I was a kid. Once it started it ran but getting it to run took most of your Saturday.

watch more of the videos. the dumbass kicking on it did not check the ignition correctly. the jetting had to played with some too after it started. we also fould out later on that the piston rings were the wrong width for the pistons. i had never seen that one before. tatro

If that carb is a Mikuni 38mm VM-9, it should have an enrichener system on it. You shouldn't have to choke it with your hand. I can't tell from the video but could that carb be a Chinese knock-off? if it is the real deal the word "Mikuni' should be stamped into the metal on the left side of carburetor.

flooding a motor is one way to start one that does not want to start. what and how it deals with it gives you a clue on what to do next. you have to figuare out what it wants to start and what to do next after it does. its not like all i am doing is just kicking. tatro

Not really a knowledgeable mechanic... First check if there is spark on the spark plugs REMOVED and grounded, then if the carburetor is full of gas and fueling the cylinders, then you can prime the carburetor with starting fuel just to verify if it starts, buy you may want to check contact breaker points for correct timing...etc.

and you forgot the most important part, make sure the valves are closed and you have suction to pull the fuel in. tatro
