The arcade style is really what I've been wanting as a new father, I don't have entire empty evenings to devote to sprawling open worlds anymore. This one was a great add to the collection, nice review.

It does deserve a solid 8.5/10 .... The GameCube was my childhood and gosh this game ... I spent so many hours just restarting the game and unlocking everything. The SNES, N64 and GameCube era were the most innovative years of Nintendo in my opinion. You could argue it was the Wii but imo again the Wii was too creative limiting the access to engage. There was tons of fun with the Wii don't get me wrong but compared to the SNES, N64 and GameCube. The games quality was just insane. Even with the hardware limitations. But for sure Nintendo is always the most innovative company in the gamin industry by far even right now during the switch. It's just during those era, it was a summit that since then wasn't matched. Maybe it's nostalgia talking but ... It's my beliefs. Edit: oh and the freaking soundtrack of a080 avalanche is literally a goldmine. All the genre is covered with amazing artists. Cauterize and the Seether for sure are still such a joy to listen to. Fine again was my favorite music from how melancholic it was to hear after a whole 5-8 race. I still have a strong sense of "going back home after a hard day" from it. It just sooth the heart. Gosh I miss those careless time.

Man, everything you just said is so on-point. Glad to see someone else who loved this game and played it a ton! I agree that the SNES, N64, and GameCube era were the most innovative years for Nintendo (and gaming in general). Despite the hardware limitations, devs were forced to get more ambitious and creative behind those limits. The soundtrack in 1080 Avalanche was awesome, and a big part of what made the game so immersive. Thanks again for sharing your memories/thoughts, and for checking out the review!

I used to play this a lot with my younger sister back in the day, I'd love a new title in the series or even a remaster, and I still play the soundtrack once in a while, along those of Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Freedom Fighters, old Hitman 2, and the original recordinf of Final Fantasy Vrystal Chronicles. This, MK:DD, Soul Calibur 2, Timesplitters 2 and 3, and many more, including a ton of single player games we also enjoyed together or compared our progress in. I later bought her a Gamecube with all of those games, luckily before the prices went from high to insane, and I got really lucky since I could buy a collection of someone in quick need of cash, that included all of the games I wanted with it, some to complete my own collection, some to replace my own copies with, and some to sell that made me back all my money invested, even while remaining well under the ebay prices back then. 1080 Avalanche is still among my favourite racing games ever, together with the likes of Excite Trucks and NFS Nitro, with the most recent addition to that list being Cruis'n Blast.

FYI ALERT. I've unfortunately discovered something bad about this game: It appears that the disc print process used for 1080 avalanche discs utilized a cheaper glue/plastic that is now starting to cloud as the discs age. I take very good care of my games and have had issues with multiple copies of clean 1080 avalanche disks not being able to be read by my gamecubes (x2) or wiis (x2). "Disc Read Error". I have only had this problem with 1080 avalanche. No other game. I was able to work around this by boosting the power of my gamecube laser using the resister knob inside the system letting the gamecube see through the disc murk...but as these discs continue to age I am afraid in 20 more years all 1080 avalanche disks will be unreadable. Very unfortunate as I love this game.

Here I am still crossing my fingers for switch releases. I would buy these games if they got a switch release. SSX TRICKY & 3 Mario party remaster except 9&10 cuz they 🗑 Harry potter games (not the lego games) hell I'll settle for a just a remaster of the quidditch world cup Pokemon Stadium 1&2, collosseun, gale of darkness + the entire pokemon catologue from 2nd gen - 7th gen on the switch. Tony hawk 3&4 along with underground 1&2 Nintendo is dropping the ball with all these titles. Cuz as of now the switch and it's lame indie titles of endless jrpgs is dumb. I wished Nintendo gave a fuck about other franchises besides Zelda remakes every fucking console gen. There is so many great games in their catalog that they refuse to bring back it seems like. I wouldn't own a switch if it wasn't for the remakes of pokemon yellow, Mario party, Mario kart 8, luigis mansion 3, 3d all stars, and animal crossing. I do give them props for bringing advance wars to the switch. I would drop some stacks for the switch if Nintendo would step it up and stop acting like a Disney vault. It's like as if Nintendo doesn't like money besides reselling updates of Zelda every chance they get.
