When this song came out a lot of Cultural people were delighted. 10CC have a unique sound that is magnetic and their music does not age. It sounds as good in 2023 as it did all those years ago. Thank you for posting. I will play it many times.

This from Songfacts : The song is about a white man who gets lost in Jamaica and gets ripped off every step he makes (by a whore, by a gang who steal his medal, etc.). It was inspired by real events that happened to 10cc's Eric Stewart and Justin Hayward of The Moody Blues when they went on holiday together in Barbados.

@@alansimmonds9030I think I spent the latter part of the 80s in a bit of a haze … but, you must be relatively young to have not cited the summer of ‘76, followed by ‘77, as two of the more memorable years (Wings Over America, Floyd’s ‘Animals’, Thin Lizzy, Saturday Night Fever, a British winner at Wimbledon, Silver Jubilee, ELO’s ‘Out of the Blue’ … Raleigh Choppers, jumpers for goalposts, Ker-Plunk, Subbuteo, Scalextric, etc …) soz, got a bit carried away. It’s the age, y’know.

None of this was filmed in the Caribbean. The beach is Golden Cap on the Dorset coast and the strut/pool scenes were likely some outdoor hotel nearby. Similar deal to that Only Fools and Horses episode that was set in Benidorm but filmed in Studland Beach

I think it's more complicated than that. The white tourist feels entitled to walk through Jamaica as he pleases, and the "thugs" are just trying to live their lives and make a buck. "Don't you walk through my words, got to show some respect...."
