Hey Jeb, I agree that the CX First lounge is the best at T3 although the view isn't great. Most of it is obscured by aerobridges...etc. I see you had to use a lot of zoom in your plane spotting footage? Qantas are opening up a dedicated first class lounge there later this year (or 2024) which is great news as their shared J/F lounge is often crowded. I'd argue that the Qantas First lounge in Sydney probably has the best view in the world. The apron and many gates are directly below it and aircraft rotate or land on the main runway right in front of it.

Agreed. They’ve basically bumped first class long haul to business class long haul. And business class long haul is now premium economy. We just flew premium economy to Japan on Delta and it was basically what my parents would fly when they did business class with Cathay Pacific in the early 2000’s.

Just like with everything nowadays, shrinkflation. We, the consumer, pay more, get less while company executives get bonuses. I don't fly anymore, let them all rot.
@bend3869 ай бұрын
@@mitchdenner9743 how is that relevant to shrinkflation? If anything business class products are better than what they used to be 20 years ago and I’d say with the increased popularity of credit card and frequent flyer points etc they are more accessible to mainstream consumers than they were 20 years ago. Also not sure how business executives get their bonuses are relevant to airfares. I guess you are trying to make the point that executives are overpaid and get too much perks but I can rest assured you business travel is no perk. Having done a few trips where I worked in the offices day of departure, then head to the airport to fly a red eye to an international location in business class, then straight into meetings/businesses once you arrive is not fun and certainly not possible if you got stuck in economy not being able to get any reasonable rest. Companies pay extra to fly people in business not because it’s fun it’s because they want to maximize employee working time on the ground.

You are correct that it is a very rare event for anybody in First or Business to pay full price hence the lack of enthusiasm for offering the service. My father was a United Airlines employee, and I was an AA employee for 36 years, so my entire life was spent in the industry. This scrimping on service is one of the easiest ways to save money when nobody is paying for it. It's just my opinion, but this whole thing started with deregulation. Which is only $10,000.00 more than the iffy 1st class the couple on the show paid to traveled. I hope it was a mistake and it was $15,000.00 one way for both and not each. The Chelsea Lounge at JFK was amazing with delicious food and premium drinks, all with attentive service, and was a notable upgrade from AA's other premium lounges at JFK. The flight is much shorter than yours, but I still managed to sleep well for several hours, and the food (I had the sea bass) was restaurant-quality. One thing to note is that the $15k price shown here is a refundable fare, which is often significantly more expensive than a standard fare. When an economy ticket cost 27,000 miles, being able to book Flagship First for just 45,000 miles more than economy was a no-brainer.

Pretty much from my experience on BA and AF A-380's, AF 777 and Delta. Seems like they would move the seat closer (maybe an inch or two) to the window to make the aisle wider, unless space is need for turbulence and vibrations to eliminate possible damage. If there is an expert who knows why I'd be interested in knowing.

All first class products in my experience place great emphasis on space, including shoulder space. Business class products that use a reverse herringbone design are also distant from the wall (except your feet). Emirates business class (old school) has seats close to the windows, as does Qataria’s QSuite cabin. The old BA business class did, too. Both QR and BA business class face backwards however and, to me, are a bit claustrophobic. I find the window and fuselage too close to my shoulder/arm - just like an economy class seat.

The Spirits and Whiskey list is the same as their domestic. When I flew first class on British Airways a few years ago we had Johnny Walker Blue and amazing Champagne.

Jeb and Suzanne, how do you decide between staying awake to enjoy everything, and sleeping?

Jeb another great video. Is Cathay Business from JFK to HK on your radar? That would be a great video.

My grandma lives 10 minutes away from ORD. I grew up watching all kinds of aircraft come in to land out of my aunts sunroof. When I was super young (born ‘96) before 9/11 you used to be able to get so close too! Even as an adult, there’s nothing like the sound of roaring jet engines up close! Fun fact: I once counted the amount of time that lapsed between each takeoff from a single runway. On busy days (most days are at O’Hare) they would takeoff between every 45-60 seconds 🤯

Thank you! I just booked these for 41k miles and $44.10 for my wife and I and I am excited to use the lounge access in LHR and DFW before we go on to our final destination

only 41k for first class between LHR and DFW?

Jeb, this is a great video. I love how constructive you are with your criticism - you don't make it sound harsh and at the same time sound reasonable (just like your good friend Denis, another great reviewer IMO).

I appreciate that! Thanks so much!

Im not very clued up with airlines, if AA phase out this first class, what will they replace it with?

2:28 Is the Flagship Lounge in US open to arriving international passengers? So if I am flying from Tokyo to Dallas on JAL business class with an onward domestic connection with AA, I can go to DFW's Flagship Lounge, instead of having to go to Admirals Club lounge?
@GreenerGrass9 ай бұрын
We had an onward connecting domestic flight from DFW and had access!

@@GreenerGrass Thanks! I originally thought that the Flagship lounge is only for departing international business or first class passengers. Didn't realize that arriving ones can go there too when waiting for domestic connections. That is much better than having to use the Admirals Club. :) By the way, love your channel and many of your videos. Have done CX and SQ First before and will definitely try to see if I can try AA First before it's gone, although I don't expect AA First to get even close to CX and SQ.

If your overnighting in London a great place is the Northern edge of LHR is Bath road. plenty of hotels for plane spotting with a great view of the terminals and an active runway.
