Question for Mr Ryan Muckenhirn. With the current popularity of suppressors and rifle season on the horizon. I decided to get a Gen2 Ruger American in 350 legend. Hornadys line of subsonic ammo offers a 250 grain sub-x bullet flying at 1050 fps(16 inch test barrel). With just over 500 ft/lbs of energy at 100yards does this seem like an adequate cartridge/bullet choice for white tail? Or a bit too anemic? The idea of an extremely quiet hunting package seems intriguing.

Speaking of easton FMJs, i'm kind of upset that they discontinued the crossbow FMJ

I don't know that I really followed the logic for why you want a lighter weight point for Elk to provide a better/flatter trajectory, but don't want that for a lighter, thinner-skinned deer. I guess your argument to my understanding is that you have more restraint when you're deer hunting, and will stick to your distances, but when an Elk comes through, you're more willing - or likely - to take a shot with lesser-known distances? Is that generally correct?

Not restraint. It’s just that in elk country you can have 50-70 yard shots and they don’t duck a string like whitetail. So he is willing to take longer shots on elk and it’s a much more dynamic situation on the ground, moving, elk busting but stopping. A flatter trajectory just means you are more likely to hit vital if you estimate range. Can’t always range when you are on the ground and elk are right there.

@@benjaminbagley4168 Ok. For me elk country is the same as deer country (mule deer), and I see them in the same terrain. I don't archery hunt, just rifle, so obviously different, but I'm just trying to understand why you wouldn't still want to use the flatter trajectory, faster shooting arrow on a deer as well (if you're willing to use it on an elk), since as you note they are more prone to "duck a string".

@@JimYeats he was specifically talking about hunting whitetails from blinds and tree stands. Where you can guarantee yardage. You wouldn’t need a flatter shooting arrow when in a tree stand and your further shot is 30 yards. So you may as well got bigger broadhead and heavier arrow. To be clear I’m not sure I agree with him. But I understand the logic. I only hunt mule deer and elk so I use the same arrow because I’m able to get 70 yard shots at mule deer (and further but that’s my personal limit with perfect conditions) and I’m not shooting 500 grains 70 yards. For example I’m shooting a 423 grain arrow with 125grain grim reaper micro hades. I would use the exact same thing on mule deer. Got a complete pass through on an elk last week. 27” draw so I don’t even have that advantage either.

All these KZbinrs who have ran FOC dry and flipping to 'lighter' and 'trajectory' to stay relevant, give it a couple years and they will be pumping something else. Maybe they will bring back the XX75s.....

I think vortex needs to stop with these stupid pods and worry about their optics. Arken scopes is killing them.

Lol, 24 minutes is amazing for them, usually a "10 Minute Talk" is about an hour and ten minutes.
