Hunting in Texas only rifle I’ve ever use is a Remington 700 chambered in 243 and had no issues with Whitetail or large Axis bucks

Now just speed up the targets to 40 mph coming at you…the speed a brown bear reaches in one body length. I’ve done similar drills with a charging target mounted on a spring loaded rail (TACTIC in Bozeman) and it was humbling…could barely get off 3 shots of a 10mm G40…and the target was “charging” at only 25 mph. 😂

I went 6.8 spc because from what I saw, velocities are very similar when running a 16” barrel, which many hog hunters want, since running suppressed.

I'm from the Northeast, and my preferred rifle has always been .30-30 336's or 94's, but recently picked up a 760 Carbine in .270. I'm not giving up on it but so far I've been disappointed with accuracy, but all I've found on the shelves has been lower end 150gr loads by Winchester and Federal. It was recommended to me to try some handloads with 130gr bullets. I'll keep trying until I find something that works.

I’m old enough to remember people who had shot out throats in 8mm mausers had the chamber reamed to 8mm06. It was a super easy modification to 8mm mausers. 06 brass was everywhere. The 8-06 was no slouch of a cartridge if it was hand loaded. And was quite common when I was a kid.

Great bullet in 1939. You couldn't pay me to shoot that bullet now. I'll stick with my Barnes, trophy bonded bear claws, swift A frames and nosler partitions. Why shoot a core lokt when they're are far superior bullets on the market. Thank god it disappeared on the market when Remington went in the tank because it got a lot of people shooting good bullets instead of that antiquated junk.

I wanna see a 7mm-08 vs .308. I do disagree with the versatility going to the .223; versatility to me is the ability for the round to fit different circumstances. The ability to switch between supers at a lower grainage and faster speed and larger grainage at slower speed with some variability in between is essentially the definition of versatility in my opinion. Want to pass through, more energy, and longer ranger...super, if you want tumbling/destruction, less recoil, and quiet you go subsonic. I think clarification on what you mean by versatility is important to your choice. 300blk fits more mission sets and that is a tough point to argue when "versatility" is the category. Essentially I disagree with your statement that 300blk is "more specalized"; if you were only comparing subsonics I would agree but as a cartridge in general I couldn't disagree more. I appreciate the video, you guys did a great job but words and distinction matters. Keep it up!

I bought a new 760 gamemaster in the late 70's. I bought it because I am left -handed and never regretted it. I let a friend shoot it recently, and he couldn't believe how accurate and comfortable it was to shoot. I told him that was why I still own it..

I will probably never be able to afford taking a back country hunt out west, but 1 pair of socks for 5 days! My feet would rot off for sure lol. Never hunted where I was not back at the camper or truck by dark. I need a fresh pair every day. Most of the time I am home that evening to sleep in my own bed lol. I usually carry my rifle, box worth of ammo, a knife, water or thermos depending on weather and snacks for the day. I do have a lighter and a hankie in my pocket.

So I hunted in the piney woods of North Central Louisiana where deer hunting was done with dogs. Having a quick follow-up shot was essential when the deer are in full run. Most shots sure less than 50 yards but you do have cutovers where 200-300 yard shots are the norm. Back in the day, the gun to have was a Remington 742 in 30-06. I saw my fa ther in law shoot a deer in a full run at 300 paces ( about wv50 yds). But then again he shot that gun often and knew it well

Underrated for accuracy… full floated barrel, a proper mounted scope with good factory ammo or hand loads will give sub moa groups I’ve done it. I currently use one with a skinner front sight and weaver peep shoots about 1” @ 100

I love the idea of a scout rifle. I remember .30-30 Model 94's with the "scout scope" of the 1950's thru 1970's. For me, I have a Rossi Model 95 with a peep sight and one scope mount for a red dot sight with a quick detachable mount. I also have a Mosin Model 44. I took of the wooden stock, put a scope rail on the rear sight, and have a scout scope on it. I have the Mossberg scout rifle as well in .308. It is similar to Jim's there. I have a regular scope on it, 2.5 X Leupold. I also have a light and a laser attached on the sides as well. I also have a Kel-Tec SU16. It meets the scout rifle concept, though it is semi-auto.

I started hunting with a 30-30 then upgraded to a 30-06, I've never felt the need to own a 7mm Rem mag, I've always searched for lever and pump action rifles as I'm left-handed and they just seem to make more sense, however I've always loved the lines and look of a Remington 700 BDL. I've heard they make them in a left hand variant but I've never seen one until about 2 months ago when I walked into a shop and they happen to have one in near mint condition made in 1976. It just happened to be chambered in 7 mm Rem mag, so now I own one.

I went to Cabela's during the pandemic and the only cartridges they had were a little 9mm a few boxes of 12 gauge, 50 BMG and a whole shelf of 6.5 Creedmore. Can't be used anywhere near WNY.

I'll admit, I bought one very bad box of corelokts when Remington was really going downhill a few years ago. I hit a buck at 40 and 60 yards (both good shoulder/lung shots) with my .308, and both rounds failed to expand. 4 hours later, my cousin put that buck down with a properly functioning corelokt. I switched to ballistic tips after that, and had great luck with corelokt tipped bullets. I don't shoot them much anymore, but the majority of my handloads are in old corelokt brass.

The first deer I ever took was with my father's Savage 99 in 300 Savage with a 3-9 scope. Its such an old gun that it does in fact have the little round counter in the receiver. I love that rifle so much it just shoots like a dream and its cool to boot.
