[10th Anniversary Special #2] (Mostly) Original Railroad Crossings

For the next video in the 10th Anniversary series I'm doing, I decided to compile a collection of all of the crossings that I've visited, installed prior to the year 2000, that still feature all of their their original lights, bell(s), gate mechanisms, and bases/masts. Any that are still original, but were given an LED upgrade (or had newer LEDs installed should the crossing have originally been installed with LEDs) are not included in this video as that constitutes a change to the lights, IMHO.
Gate arms, gate lights, and signaged is not factored in for this video, as that stuff tends to be upgraded fairly regularly.

@@freebrickproductions that true lol maybe I should do some footage myself but then it's kinda hard to when I'm in the cab and you only see the gates for like a sec when you're driving about 50 mph on the tracks lol you only see it for a split second lol but I dont drive freight trains anymore tho I drive passenger train now I like it better less work and more time to look at the scenery like the passengers do on the observing car lol

Awesome video!! Oh my goodness, by the time that railroad crossing gate in the second video fully lowered, the first FREIGHT CAR had already hit the pavement! Either way, this is a really nice catch! Great video!

Thanks! Usually by the equipment used on the signals (and the design of said equipment) and the ownership history of the line.

You didn’t add the 2nd Avenue railroad crossing in Birmingham, AL. The crossing used to have 1950s ACL signals.

No, those were old SOU signals, not ACL signals. And that crossing was not nearly fully original, as the original 8 inch lights and bells were replaced with Safetran 12x24 inch lights and General Signals e-bells at some point.

You can sometimes use things like the FRA's inventory reports for a crossing to tell, but you can also generally get an idea of about when a signal would've been installed based on the equipment.
