Worked for GM at one point as a service tech. The lock ring holding the fuel pump assembly in the gas tank does happen to have a special tool for removing it. I don't know if it's available to the general public, but Bosch (which makes a number of auto parts) does make that tool for some dealerships.

@Jay O I do not, unfortunately. I also work somewhere else now so I wouldn't be able to look it up. I do know, however, that Bosch makes fuel pump lock ring tools for certain vehicle make and models. Might be able to Google it if you check.

I just bought mine off amazon, as the other mentioned it’s a lock ring removal tool, or can find it by searching fuel pump removal tool. Most the ones they make are universal and adjustable. Think I paid $15. I’d probably just go get one at your local auto parts store, or just use a hammer and screw driver (and be careful!)

One thing I’d HIGHLY recommend, actually I’d say it’s IMPERATIVE. Clean that whole damn area before you take the ring off and pull the bucket out!! It’s covered in dirt and little pebbles, ya don’t want that falling in your tank! Now for that pain the ass clip that’s hard to reach when ya lift the door off, thankfully someone told me to use a pair of hose grip pliers and it definitely saved me a lot of time and cursing the gods 😅

Just curious, but was this fuel pump replacement for the L15B7 (1.5L turbo) or the K20c1 (2.0L turbo for the Type R)?

1.5L Turbo, but the process should be the same since I have the hatchback.

Thank u sah! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 2018 civic si coupe - started misfiring. Unfortunately, due to being a coupe even tho it has the same engine, it is not part of the recall. Dont want to take to dealer to repair. May be trippin because of the oil dilution issue, but wanted to troubleshoot myself before taking to dealer. Fuel system is next and I did not know how to get to the pump until now! Thanx again!

I have a question about how you took off one of the the gas line. The very first one you touch can you explain how you took it off?

There are 2 tabs on each side that you need to press in. I push the line IN to make it easier to press the tabs down. Then pull OUT the line

thanks for this video. Now I know how to at least remove the seats.....incase my 2019 Type R has fuel pump issues. Is it okay to run that fuel pump on a stock car?

I believe so if you still have the stock high-pressure fuel pump. In-tank fuel pump feeds into high-pressure fuel pump then to your injectors.

I don’t have the bottom mounting clips and the sock it came with is too big, do I reuse the factory sock or just shove the new sock in there with no mounting clips

Where is the actual fuel pump filter? Is it inside the gray cylinder thing?

It attaches to the bottom of the gray cylinder. Then all fits in the plastic container

Hey bro do you have to disconnect anything else that isn’t the pump when I disconnected one of the tubes gas started to burst out

That’s normal. The fuel system is pressurized so when you disconnect the lines some fuel will come out. Should stop though.

Bro how did you take off the fuel pump lock ring , I’m struggling I tried with a tool from autozone but it didn’t really fit on the ring, let me know please

I struggled too, I was using two flat heads but at the end I used 1 flathead and my fingers. I unlocked 1 side and pulled it enough so it wouldn’t lock again and then worked on the other side. I was working on that thing for about 30 minutes.

Hold the fuel pump assembly up, align the locking ring, then I used a flathead screwdriver and a hammer to lock it in
