Got to say, I sure do miss my dad and my mom. Dad trained there (87th Company I) and Mom worked at the Pando Depot there in the summers when she was not teaching school at Loma, CO.

Great film! My great uncle was in the 10th, Company 85 G. He was KIA on hill 909 in Italy on April 14th 1945. He served in the same platoon as John Mcgrath who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. The German soldiers that Mcgrath captured, carried my great uncle down the hill on a blanket.

What was your great uncle's name, if you don't mind my asking?

.... Loved the other comments, so here's mine...My Dad was in the 10th Mountain Division in Northern Italy...He was proud of what they did (see some other flicks on you-tube to get an idea)...It wasn't until he passed away that we found out he had earned 3 Bronze Stars for Heroism...Wow, I had no idea my Dad was a 3 time hero...Well he's my hero now...While my Dad did his tour, my Mom built P-47's and other airplanes...So they both did their duty to our country and a service to the world...God bless all who served, as it was their efforts which lead to a successful victory in W.W.2 and enabled us all to be here now to appreciate their hard efforts....

Vast majority film had to be taken 1943. Construction of camp was finishing end Nov & first several weeks Dec of 1942. I've spoken to ski trooper that was with the construction crew, then drafted, volunteered because spoke Norwegian & ended up back at Hale ski training. When my father&99th arrived Dec 19or20, 1942 the finish carpenters were still working on his barrack.

I am pretty sure that at 3:12 that is my Great Uncle Richard in the foreground looking at the camera. (Closest to the camera with glasses and a PFC stripe on his sleeve.) We have been looking for him in films for years!

I have scoured the site for a couple years now and loved camping out there when I lived up in Vail. I've seen gobs of still photos, but never thought I'd get to see film, much less color film. I love recognizing many of the land's features. Excellent!

Color Camp Hale movies if it is 1942 then would be 87th Regement because I believe 10th Mtn. Division not formed yet. Won't be chance of 99th Battallion or 99ers unless between 19th or 20th Dec. and 31st 1942. Good chance is 1943 or later in 1944 because Oct to early Dec or very late Nov contractors were still building Hale. I've spoken with 99er that was on construction crew before he was drafted.
