Carlos Gracie thought he was something special when he learned from Maeda. Maeda had taught others before Carlos. Biggest difference is that Carlos didn't focus on the throwing and slamming because he didn't get to see somebody as small as Mifune Kyuzo do it irl. Carlos went to Jujutsu just as Kano-osensei and Ueshiba-osensei learned Jujutsu. Then again Carlos never thought that the art he learned would become something more.

I have been saying for a while now that even with all the Bruce Lee movie obsession, if not for 10p I probably would never have *tried* martial arts. Having some level of ADHD it's really a breath of fresh air because out of all the other areas in my life, being not just tolerated, but ENCOURAGED to explore and try things out for myself in unconventional ways or by chasing rabbit trails is something I've only ever found at 10p. Eddie is the goat of invention. The gracies may have invented a few new positions but most of the techniques--came from japanese jiu-jitsu and judo. Hell, there is even ancient greek pottery depicting a kimura, a fireman's carry, other grappling positions. All grappling arts have similar techniques. In the past several thousand years, only Eddie Bravo can claim to have invented dozens of entirely new positions and techniques. And the absolute undisputed GOAT at naming techniques, by far (well, maybe that's not fair because he certainly used some PEDs--organic ones--to come up with the names 😂
