@@nebraskahayfarmer1225 it's good to see that kind of cutting-edge engineering. Owner's manuals are overrated anyway 😂
@alexdrake99315 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you have discovered that the owner's manual tube can be used for much more useful things. Always remember that the owner's manual is merely a " suggestion " on how to operate and service the machine. Every farmer knows that, as long as you have a 5 lb sledgehammer, a good greasy pair of vise grips, and a couple sticks of dynamite, you can service any piece of farm equipment without any instructions. You are on your way to learning these valuable lessons .
@wingrider6875 жыл бұрын
@@alexdrake9931 you may want to consider a torch and not dynamite. You want there to be a spreader left if you're cutting off a rusted bolt... 😂
@alexdrake99315 жыл бұрын
@@wingrider687 I sincerely appreciate that advice. However, due to the fact that I routinely use at least 10 gallon of diesel fuel or gasoline as a good " degreaser " before I begin my every 8000 hour maintenance program, I find that the torch merely causes a large building fire that invites at least 2 fire companies to the farm

How am I so entertained by a video review of a piece of equipment I will never buy in my life?
@mhoffe5 жыл бұрын
Eric, I have learned so much about farming from you!! I only have 4 acres right now, but my son, daughter-in-law, and I are looking to upscale to between 25-50 acres to raise a few beef and dairy cows, goats, crops for our use, and have a few acres set aside for rotating paddocks for our horses. We want to have our own little homestead. Only thing is we just haven't buttoned down what state is going to suit us long term. Southeastern Michigan (about 10 minutes from Port Huron - the northern bridge crossing into Canada - where the St. Clair River empties into the mouth of Lake Huron and 45 miles northeast of Detroit) isn't far off of the same weather you face, year round. So far we have it narrowed down to Florida between Ocala ➡Tampa➡Daytona; Georgia between Macon➡Savannah; or Texas between San Antonio➡Houston➡Fort Worth. I've even got them watching your videos and they take notes like I do of the things you've shown us!! It would be awesome to take you (and your dad) to lunch or dinner on one of our trips through PA on our way to Washington, D.C. The knowledge, expertise, and skills you've mastered and talked about on your videos are so very helpful to novices like us. In terms of stock animals, I am pretty confident in my knowledge of horses because I have had them so long, but having milking cows & goats and a couple of beef cows - well, I'm out of my league there. That's why I like your videos so much. I'm 58 today (Jan. 2nd) and I am not ashamed to learn from a young man who is so incredibly well versed about all there is to running a successful dairy farm and 10th generation at that!! Anyway, I wanted you to know how you have impacted my family and me with your videos (still working on getting you that Mt Dew sponsorship!!) and we wait eagerly for each new one to drop. Please keep them coming and don't be shocked when I start asking even more farming questions once the weather breaks come April (or here in Michigan, it could well be August lol...ya just never know around here!!). Take care, be safe and mindful of all that machinery and heights. It is with heartfelt thoughts and prayers that I wish you and your family a New Year filled with happiness, health, prosperity, a successful farming year, and love. God bless to you all.

My great-grandfather, John M. Lindsey ( 1850-1943 ) designed a single-spoke manure spreader pulled by a two-horse team. He was taken in as an orphan at the age of 8 after his father fell while shingling a barn roof and his mother died the same day from the shock upon hearing the news ( she was pregnant). During the Civil War at the age of twelve he was left in charge of a 1,000 acre farm and 20 slaves. He ran the farm, survived Sherman's March to the Sea, marauding Yankee soldiers and Confederate deserters. All the former slaves stayed with him until the owner of the farm returned. As his reward, he was offered two choices: 160 acres of land or a horse and 40 dollars. He took the horse and 40 dollars and at the age of 15 set out for Texas. He got the idea to build a manure spreader from his experiences rounding up wild cattle from the brush of South Texas and driving them to the stockyards of Galveston for shipment on cattle boats to the east ( New York meat district - Manhattan ). He manufactured the Lindsey Manure Spreader ( circa 1880 -1910 ) in Crystal Springs ( Floyd County ), Georgia, transporting them two at a time on a 4-horse dray to the railroad depot in Rome, Georgia, where they were shipped as far away as India. He was a deacon of the Armuchee Baptist Church for 55 years. He was the type of man most of us might want to be. I just thought someone might find it interesting. I just thought that someone should know.

It is the modern kind of manure spreader. The one with horizontal spreaders is a legacy from that time, maybe 100 years ago, when everything was driven by the wheels and a couple of horses pulled.
