Very smart. I am starting the same process for meat. Chickens and rabbits are the perfect answer. Thank You for sharing your info and set up!!

have you considered growing the females for 8 wks?

I normally grow a mix of both hens and roosters. This way I process roosters one week and then hens the next. I decided to try all roosters this time. It adds some stress though because you basically have to process the same week. My roosters are 8 lbs at 6 weeks which is incredible.

I put golf balls where I wanted to have them lay their eggs and guess what they did

I bought ceramic eggs from a tractor supply and I put them in there and they lay. The ceramic eggs look so realistic I have to actually mark them with a permanent marker so I know that they are the fake ones.

My husband will retire in less than 2 years. We will hopefully be moving into homesteading. I'm looking forward to getting rid of old dogs and cats and more useful sustaining animals. People have always dropped animals off here for 40 years. It's time for something new. Thank you. If you have ideas I'm listening.

They must have sent me 26 chicks. I processed 8 yesterday and if I counted correctly I still have 17 remaining even after 1 dying within the first week.
