I am so happy that they came back to their nest. After those terrible winter storms last year and then the fires I wasn’t sure. How exciting 2025 is going to be. Their union is going to be blessed and we’re going to have us some healthy little eaglets. 🥰🦅

Can someone share how/why the pinecone is named Jeff? That’s my late son’s name. But I’m sure there’s a story behind that.

It’s wonderful to be “back in the old nest” again with America’s favorite established couple. I came on here during the egg laying and stayed until the oh so bitter end. Each day felt sadder than the one that preceded it. I found it very difficult to leave their nest behind. But I have been looking in and they seem to have fully committed to the same ole tree! Let’s all stay extra positive that this is the grand year and maybe even two eaglets will make it out of the nest this year. We all know it’s not for lack of trying or interest. The one thing I learned quickly after last year is noticing how frequent these failures are and how tenuous the entire nesting time really is. All across the country, eagles had their troubles. Many of us in here likely just saw our beautiful peregrine male in St. Charles in NSW fledge prematurely with his many problems. Then we were all lifted back higher watching his sister achieve her real lift off. I live out in the northwest hills of CT (foothills to the Berkshires) and we enjoy a red tail hawk family that has chosen our woods for their home. We do not know the exact nest location, but we are on their flight path in and out of the woods. During their first nesting, the calls were going nonstop in and out and we caught dad (the original Tomahawk) with squirrel in his talons zooming back to the noisy nest. This went on for many weeks this summer. We did see 4 flying together this fall. Now they have returned to winter here again. So I know all about “raptor love” and I hope to enjoy your FOBB community. Curious. Am I seeing that lake dropping on the water level? Looks lower to me. We are having a real drought out now here and I can’t recall the last rain- it was back in August. But we hear that snow is heading East in time for Thanksgiving!

Eagles have an internal temperature of 105. They are built for the cold. Once the eggs are laid, they will roll the eggs frequently to keep them warm equally all around. They are able to keep the eggs sufficiently warm!

Where is the nest fluff...it's all sticks..
@FOBBVCAM11 күн бұрын
The fluff is usually added at the end once they feel the sticks are sufficient for the year’s egg laying! Since it sits in the bowl to make it softer for the eggs, it will come last.

Can the weight of all those sticks tear after year be why maybe the eggs may not have gotten enough oxygen and is so if they put a camera up there why can’t they give it a little takeaway or something ? Thank you
@FOBBVCAM11 күн бұрын
Hello! Eagles are known to build large nests. Jackie and Shadow’s nest gets bigger every year. They add 600-800 sticks every year to reinforce it. They will also add fluff, grass and reeds, to make the nest softer for the eggs. We only are here to learn and observe Jackie and Shadow. We do not interfere in any way at this time.
