When I retired in 2015, we visited my husband’s family in Cocoa Beach and stayed at the Hilton on 4th floor located on the beach across from the Kennedy Space Center. To our surprise when we entered the lobby and spotted a huge sign welcoming visitors to the rocket launch scheduled at 6:15 the next morning. My husband watched it from the beach with the crowd while I stayed in our room and watched it from the window still dressed in my pajamas!

What a wonderful day you had. I grew up in a town called Titusville across the river from Kennedy Space Center. Most of the workers lived there. The rockets would rattle the house Windows. It is impressive and indescribable to see a launch in person. Fun fact the town had a High School named Astronaut High, 3 of my brothers graduated from there. At the football games they would throw six inch high plastic astronauts into the stands after we made touchdowns😃😃.

Wow! A fellow Native! Howdy, John, Carl, and Ney Ney! I grew up just up the coast a bit in Jacksonville, in the 1960’s. One of my earliest memories is a night lauch, when my Daddy woke me , bundled me in a blanket, and held me up in our backyard looking south. Even though I was barely 5 years old, I remember it. I have been lucky enough to see several launches, including one from the military viewing area. The Apollo era was an amazing time ! Thanks for the awesome video, Hanks!

With your Blackstone when it happens to get rust on it that means that it wasn’t cleaned off and dried properly, so when you use it before putting it away you get it hot pour water on it let that boil for a second take a wet rag and wipe off your surface. Then you let it cool off while it’s drying and put it away do not put oil on it again until you started up the next time. That’s what I do with mine and each time I go to use it again even after a month the surface is clean with no rust on it. You guys are awesome I love watching you.

We cook on our Blackstone about 3 times a week. It is well treated and can handle anything. Clean up is vital. I know the animal proteins can be a problem (ie.bacon, steaks etc... ) once you are done cooking you clean and treat. For example after cooking steak, while it is resting before eating, keep griddle on, throw a cup of water on, watch it bubble up where the animal fat separate from the griddle, scrape it of. Turn griddle off, the that it with Blackstone grease using a tong and paper towels, covering griddle top. If you that with animal fats, you risk the chance of rust. Also humidity is a culprit, as well. Make sure it is covered and under something, as the rain will still get through covers, leaving rust behind. I have seen someone take a Blackstone completely covered in rust and bring it back.

We have watched two rocket launches from Space View Park which gives a spectacular panoramic view looking towards the west to launch site 39. One launch was a satellite and the other was the Space Shuttle Columbia. Watching the rockets blast off was breathtaking, and feeling the sound effects coming from the ground is something to remember for a lifetime! Space View park is free to park at with many amenities that you can do or just get food or just take pictures of the monuments that memorialize those men and women who were part of the missions. The history of site 39 is deep as it was also the site where the Space Shuttle Challenger was launched from in 1986. Definitely something to have on your wish list if you get the chance to visit. So glad that the two of you got to visit the Space complex and totally nerd out in the history of NASA!

He has it right for the rust on the BS. If the rust is any deeper, it is a lot more involved prices, but for simple surface, that works. To prevent, clean it off while it is still hot right after you turn off the burner and then apply a really thin coat of oil, I use avacado oil, with a paper towel. Let it cool and it will be good to go for a couple weeks without issue usually, unless the humidity is really high, then still several days to a week. The real lesson here is use it more often, it can make so much good food.

From a EMPC Fancy talk for a really smart Chef. Heat the Griddle, apply veg oil, use a grill brick to clean in smooth back and forth motions as if spreading mortar. Back and forth a few times till the steel looks shiny and bright. A flat scraper will "squeegie" off the oil to your drain tray. Don't be freaked out if it looks like motor oil. Grill bricks are available at any food supply or cash and carry. If you're super concerned, a wet kitchen rag held by tongs can wipe all excess oil before you re-oil your griddle.

Thank you so much for sharing this experience! The space center is one of my favorite places on earth. I always dreamed of becoming an astronaut and actually worked as a rocket motor designer for five years early in my career. I spent a lot of time at the space center as we performed test launches. It is just an awe inspiring place. I hope to return a few more times in my life.

My wife has a tee shirt that says, "I feel the need for Speed." But that's my name so it was kind o' odd hearing you say that. Flattering but odd hahahaha. Great Video. We saw the last shuttle take off from there. That was truly amazing as well as seeing the last night time shuttle launch from all the way up in Jacksonville! It lit up the sky like a roman candle! Any who, Thanks for yet another awesome episode!

When we lived in Orlando, we used to drive out to Cape Canaveral and watch the different launches all the time. Difference is we would find the gravel access roads on the local jetty's and just drive down them, find a spot and park. Ton's of fun, and really low key.

Great video! We live in the Tampa area and still have not gone to the Kennedy Space Center. But your video may have jumpstarted me to get my teenage son out of his room and off his phone for some real activities. I think we will make a video for our channel. If so we will tag you guys. Thanks for your continued inspiration and comedic relief. You guys ROCK!

Griddles should be treated like a cast iron pan. Always keep it lightly oiled. I use avocado oil since it as a higher heat range. Clean it by turning it on high and wait for it to get hot. Pour some water over it and steam clean it. Just enough that it steams but not too much that it fills your catch can. Scrape everything off. Scrape, scrape, and scrape. More water, if needed. Get all of the burnt up oil off. You don't want that in your next meal. I scrape to one side and wipe the scraper off with a paper towel. Don't use paper towels on the griddle or you'll be eating paper towel particulars. Once it cools off, lightly oil it and use the scraper to spread it out. Remove any excess if you're going to store it. I put just the griddle top into a trash bag before putting the entire Blackstone into the carrying bag/cover. This way, oil isn't getting onto the fabric of the carrying case. That trash bag is then the outside trash can bag at the next camping trip. Oil/drippings and paper towels go into the fire ring to help start the next bacon smelling fire.

When you're finished with your Blackstone griddle and it has completely cooled down, spray it with Pam cooking spray. It's an oil and will keep the griddle from rusting.

heat the griddle up then turn it off light oil scrape any loose rust. then use the griddle brick on the remaining rust once rust is removed clean well with water then re-season the griddle. A very thin coat of oil heat until smoking keep the heat on then repeat the light oil process another 2 times then cook on it.
