Emmelie, I'm about to say something kind of corny, my apologies: you've created a wondrously inviting space here. Through presentation, book selection, lightness of analysis (not overwhelming), and adoration of each work as a joy in itself, you are inviting new readers in to a whole inner cosmos of literary delights. Genuinely, when I think about how you present your channel in tandem with your literary tastes, this is the perfect channel for young readers to discover for themselves a love of reading. Such a gift! I had that thought while watching and just had to express it. Great job, as always!

Susanna Clarke is a genius. I just finished my second reading of Jonathan Strange and M. Norrell and it was even more delightful than the first time. It may have moved into my favourite books of all time category. Piranesi is one I need to read so 2025 seems perfect. Vanity Fair is a book I really enjoyed and Becky Sharp is a very memorable character indeed. I just read Les Miserables about 18 months ago so I don't think I am up for a re-read yet. Les Liaisons Dangereuses is one of those books that always entertains me. I just finished a re-read of it and just re-watched the movie for the umpteenth time. So deliciously depraved characters! You have made some excellent choices and the 2025 reading year will be so rewarding.

The film adaptation of the play of Dangerous Liasons starring John Malcovitch, Glenn Close, and Michelle Pfeiffer introduced me to the novel. I saw the film multiple times in the theater and bought the movie soundtrack. Then read the book, which I enjoyed. All is fair in love and war.

Have you read Faust II before? If not, here are my two cents on it: It is a very difficult read and even more difficult to interpret. Goethe once said that one can only understand it with life experience and will otherwise not really know what to do with it. I have read it in my twenties (I am now 33) and plan to reread it when I am much older, taking and appreciating his advice 😆 Faust I on the other hand is just great. I have read it a few times by now and I have so many favorite passages.

Hello Emmelie - just wondering with the first novel Les Misérables (Penguin Classics) I see in your video you have a slightly older version. Just wondering is the newest Penguin Classics translation by Christine Donougher OK for reading with your bookclub? Would it make a difference if I was reading a different translation to the one you are using? - thank you for your video lots of interesting books in there.

Hello Emmelie. I couldn't find the video you posted about Father Goriot so I'll post my question here: when do we start? I remember you saying Père Goriot is your scheduled book for December. I've never done this before with you but I've started the book as it is December. I'm reading it in French. Can you explain how this works? Are you going to post a video weekly or just at the end of the month to discuss? I have no idea. Did I miss something? Maybe you conduct the book club on Patreon (which you didn't mention in your KZbin video)?

I would love to join your book club but I am a frightfully slow reader. I think this is partially due to the fact that I read multiple things at once (books, magazines, newspapers) and have other interests as well. Perhaps I can jump in opportunistically such as the play from Wilde and Goethe's work which I have read already.
@ProseAndPetticoatsАй бұрын
I know it can be hard to divide your time when you have many different interests. Don't worry about being a slow reader. Yes, you could pick out the shorter novels / plays and decide for yourself if you will be able to make it. Wilde's play should be doable for sure.
@VyborneАй бұрын
@@ProseAndPetticoats I'm interested also in Les Misérables but I imagined reading it in French. However it may be opportunistic to read along with you since you are devoting three months to it. Are there particular editions in English that you will be using?
