I agree with most things in the video, except the comments regarding popcorn. Not everything can be properly compared through calories per pound. Popcorn is incredibly light and fluffy. 3 cups of popcorn is about 100 calories. That's a lot of food for few calories. It will fill up your stomach, sending full signals, and the amount of time to eat the 3 cups will leave enough time for your brain the get the signal. This makes popcorn and pretty low calorie, satisfying food. Some foods are better compare by volume than weight.

Yeah that is the biggest misconception! Everything light weighted is immediately „bad“…..in the low density community.another example are rice cakes.

I’m guilty of eating too much peanut butter and maple syrup 🥴 I feel great eating a plant based diet, but I’m struggling to lose the last 10 pounds and I’m pretty sure it’s because of these foods 🙈

I’m stuck on the last 5lbs. My diet for losing that & maintaining it is much more strict than having those extra 5lbs. For me it’s also nut / seed butter and dates even though all are WFPB.

There's an OCEAN of space between a tablespoon of oil and a pound of oil. If you roast an entire tray of excellent quality vegetables coated in a few tablespoons of good quality olive oil, s&p, and paprika, the trade off is completely healthy.

What are your thoughts of PB2 powder?!? Its low calorie and the fat is removed too???
@justicejones7646
@justicejones7646 2 жыл бұрын
I would say its fine. The dilemma with pb is it's fat content, so since pb powder has most fat removed, it is no longer high calorie. She may say otherwise because 1 pound of pb powder is probably over the 700 calories per pound. But who would eat more than a couple tablespoons of pb powder at a time? Which is only 60 calories. As long as you are eating it in moderation, as a flavoring ingredient and not as the main dish, it is much lower in calorie density than regular pb and fine to include.

I wonder if you guys are eating too many carbs and thats causing your insulin to remain high. That will definitely cause weight gain. Eating a more balanced diet of fats and carbs would probably be more successful for weight loss. When you have elevated insulin you have to count every little ounce of fat or else it gets stored, not good.

These are all wonderful tips/swaps for the higher calorie density foods. One of the tips that really speaks to me..is to use 1/3 cup of chickpeas to a smoothie instead of the protein powders. I've been using protein powders for a long time: 1 scoop only (Orgain Superfoods Protein Powder), and add raw oats, turmeric, cinnamon, flax and chia seeds, frozen banana and frozen blueberries and frozen salad or other greens. I don't use any added sugars and have learned to like this, but after my Orgain powder is gone, I am going to try the chickpeas, or navy beans in my smoothie instead. Thanks for the great tips!! Blessings on a healthy baby too!

Did I miss it or is pasta not as calorically dense because it's a wet starch although the grain is not intact? Most types of oats are not intact grains, anyway...

Pasta is over 700 calories per pound - I suppose I didn't include it on the list because this is a "healthy foods" list - and while pasta isn't unhealthy - I don't know too many people who consider it to be a particulary healthy food if that makes sense. Nothing wrong with it - I have it a few times per week! :)

I'm the same with the crunchy foods I've found what works for me is sticking with the basic low caloric density principles for my meals and then incorporating alongside or as part of the main component a crunchy component. I try to keep the calories of said component relatively low for their volume E.g. roasted chickpeas, crispy rice cereal, rice cakes etc I don't know if that approach would work for you but it's been so helpful for me I'm able to eat abundantly, am satisfied and maintain my weight after weight loss

Please ignore what Melissa has said. As someone who formerly had severe digestive issues for 26 years, fruits and vegetables are the last things you need while having IBS. Focus on nourishing foods. Animal foods. Not dead nutrition like what she mentions in this video. Take care and good luck.

I agree with you on most of these tips and swaps except for the chickpeas instead of protein powder in a smoothie. Eating mainly vegan it is very difficult to get the daily protein I need. Even having spent time tracking all the protein sources in a meal, unless I over eat, it doesn’t even come close to what I need. 1/3cup of chickpeas is only 6 grams of protein where as a serving of protein powder is 27g. Even a 1/2 serving is 13.5g.
