Railways were first introduced to India in 1853 from Bombay to Thane. In 1951 the systems were nationalised as one unit, the Indian Railways, becoming one of the largest networks in the world. It also owns locomotive and coach production facilities at several places in India and are assigned codes identifying their gauge, kind of power and type of operation. Its operations cover twenty eight states and seven union territories and also provides limited international services to Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

4vep vik these are nearly 100mph slower than Uk main line trains (125mph) the javelins on HS1 140mph eurostar 186mph section of the ECML 140mph new trains on the ECML may also routinley travell at 140mph so no these are nowhere near uk speeds....

@@Hsh637 you are right. But the per axle load on our tracks is much much greater therefore we cannot afford high speeds like 200kph. The tracks are perfectly capable of 210kph but the wear is much too high to permit the trains

Our LIRR are the only trains we have that comes close. Express running on the local track here is between 85-95 mph. But those trains are sick. More than a 100mph easy. Oh, and I've always loved trains!!!
